Metallica's Some Kind of Monster docuementary is going to be on VH1 this Saturday at 11pm central (I think that's the right time). They are going to show it commercial free.

It figures since I just rented the dvd from Blockbuster online.

Anyway, I understand this is a kick ass documentary. I've been wanting to check it out even though I'm not a huge Metallica fan.

    God bless you, Da Glyde.

Metallica can rot in hell as far as I'm concerned.

Cool. I've been waiting to watch Metallica interact off stage and get in their little inter-personal spats. I only wish it tore the band apart back then and they were no longer around. I know...blasphemy. Maybe I wouldn't feel that way if they put out a decent record since way back when. The only answer to getting back to Metallica of old is for James to start drinking again. :D They could use some long hair again as well.

The doc is worth the time to watch on VH1, but don't waste your money on the rental unless you just HAVE to pay to sit through 2 hours of Lars and company fighting like little school girls.

His three minutes were Oscar worthy. Make sure the tissues are near by for his captivating performance as "ugly 'alleged' rock star who cries in this scene."

Honestly, I thought the most interesting part was the actual recording process. I like seeing how those songs are crafted. All the infighting stuff seemed silly. It seemed like the major problem was James and his vices, but Lars is a dick and seemed to instigate fights all the time.

If you don't want to be spoiled, don't read:

The way they treat the new bass player, ie profit sharing and stuff, is different from the way the lawyers and management seemed to want it, so watch for that scene.

One of the funniest moments was when they had to do some stupid promo for a radio station and James goes "You wouldn't see Bono or the Edge doing this, why do we have to?" The manager tells them that if they don't they risk the radio station not playing the record. That leads to the lyric "Wash your back so you won't stab mine ah!"

Another funny part was when their group therapist seems to get clingy and think that he is going to become a permanent part of Metallica Inc. as their onstaff therapist or something(he was getting 40 grrr a week, I'd want a permanent job if it payed that well).

Another nice scene was when Lars and company went to check out Newstead's new band. Seeing Jason diss them and not stop by to shake hands after the set as they waited was a nice slap in the face to the ego that is Lars.

2 hours of millionare temper tantrums was a bit too much for this LonghornFan. James cannot jam after 7, Lars b****es. Shrink following the band like a lost puppy, Lars b****es. Leaf blows across a parking lot in Michigan, Lars b****es. That pretty much sums it up.

Yes, but at the time, I don't think they planned on needing him for a year and a half.
