Anyone else go? I was on the floor on the rail and handbanged my ass off!

The rotating stage was alright - it certainly gave a whole lot more people the chance to be up close with James, Kirk and Robert being really good about moving to different spots on the stage. They played for 2+ hours, I lost track. I got the set lists off the stage for Godsmack and Metallica as well as many picks. I hope this wasn't my last chance to see these metal-gods play.

Did Justin Timberlake join them on stage for a soulful rendition of One?

handbanging and fingerbanging have no place at Metallica shows. headbanging, on the other hand, is a requirement.

I thought Godsmack was a Metallica tribute band.

Am I mistaken? They sound identical.

godsmack doesnt not sound like metallica at all at least i think. they are an awesome band though, i think godsmack strings their guitars a bit lower (a la korn) than metallica does

To me Godsmack is like a great mix of Metallica and Alice In Chains. They have a dirtier sound than Metallica (more like Chains) but play more uptempo music (unlike Chains) and more like Metallica. I like the mix.

Their music isnt earth shatterning. But it is good foot stompin' hard rock. They are one of my favs.

I had a chance to go to tonight's show in Dallas, but I just spent a bunch of cash elsewhere and decided blowing fifty bones on a concert wasn't the best idea...

If anything, I believe Godsmack is a tribute to Alice in Chains. A friend of mine once told me that "Godsmack" was the name of a AIC song. I wasn't really looking forward to Godsmack much. I knew of their popular stuff that gets radio play (which was almost exclusively what they played), but none of it really blew my skirt up. However, the duel drumming portion of their set was FREAKING GREAT. I love it when bands have the multiple drum thing going. Something about just sets my inner mojo on maximum overdrive. Can't really explain it.

I was at this concert as well. It was about the 5th time I have seen Metallica, and it was probably the best show I have seen. They played a lot longer than I expected...and just when I thought I was going to be heading home without hearing Seek and Destroy, James surprised me. I'm still really, REALLY sore from that concert as I haven't been to one in a while. Probably over-exerted myself.

Also, what is it with Metallica and playing "I Disappear" at their concerts? To me, this is the least substantial of any song they have ever written. It was an oversimplified song for a ****ty movie, and nothing about it get me excited or interested. But the last two concerts I have attended they played it. Frankly, I would much rather have heard Four Horsemen or Whiplash.

Robert Trujillo is a HIGHLY adequate replacement of Newsted. Plus he sweats about 80% less.

On a side note, where were you, Chump? In the section (on the floor) my g/f and I settled in at, a bunch of people noticed Jeff Bagwell in the stands a few rows up past the floor area. Everyone went nuts and started cheering and rushing him for autographs. After a few minutes, several of the security bouncer dudes went up there and cleared everyone out so Jeff could just enjoy the show. I felt bad for him, since just wanted to rock out with Metallica. Occasionally, thoughout the night, I would look up and see how he was behaving. He had an interesting method of displaying his enjoyment. He would kind of extend both arms out towards the band, palms open at staggered angles...almost like a person at a church that was "feeling the holy spirit." It was kind of funny.

PS. The chick he brought with him was pretty hot.

I was on the floor, to the right of where Lars started/ended, right in front of that mic setup on the cornor...where Kirk ripped his awesome solo

Never saw Bagwell and was wishing I had binoc's to see what those hot girls were showing off in the stands across the way

I'm a huge Godsmack fan and although I enjoyed their set, it was rather short with mostly their radio hits...I really think their best work are the songs you never hear on the radio

Metallica has so many great songs, especially - pre- black that they could play, but they would have to play for 6 hours for me to be happy :)

this was my 2nd Metallica show/4th Godsmack, my wife's 10th Metallica

Your friend was correct. The song Godsmack was on the AIC album Dirt.

so i watched the documentary "Some Kind of Monster" the other day. got 2 questions for ya. what kind of gay ass band hires a shrink for 10 grand a session? oh yeah, metallica.

and secondly, why didn't they kick out hetfield b/c of his alchohol problem? they sure were quick with the boot with Mustaine.

    I haven't seen it yet

Metallica behind the scenes sure isn't always a 'cool' image for sure, but they can still rock live, and for me, that is good enough as we've all got our own f'ed up s, ya know

Not sure I even want to respond to this since your opinion on Metallica is pretty summed up with your own words... "gay ass"...but I'll go ahead and answer your second question.

I heard in an interview once where the band members refered to Mustaine as a mean, violent drunk. In their early years, ALL the band members had what many would consider tobe an alcohol problem these days. They got ****-faced after every show. I've heard them openly talk about chugging Jagermeister (or however it is spelled). The difference was Cliff, James and Lars were goof offs that had fun when drunk, and Dave got mean and violent. That didn't go over well and they kicked him out.

It should also be noted that they were all very young when they gave Dave the boot, and likely would have handled things differently now that they are older and, one would hope, wiser.

Talented as he is, Dave Mustaine is and has always been a huge, egomaniacal *******.

Like most assholes, he can be perfectly nice sometimes. But if he's set off, which drunk junkies tend to get, he would be just intolerable.
