so name of the new album is death magnetic. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/EH1hYJmmm7I&hl=en"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/EH1hYJmmm7I&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> is anyone excited for the new material? no firm release date as of yet, just sometime in sept of this year... meaning 5 full years between st. anger and this one. it seemed like that was a long wait, but they went 5 years between the black album and load, and 6 between reload and st. anger.
I hated St. Anger when it first came out. AAfter I listened to it for awhile though it grew on me. Id it going to be all raw like SA or old Metallica?
James Hetfield just doesn't sound the same anymore. I stopped buying after Black. Ride the Lightning Baby!
i found this on youtube, its a cut of a bunch of samples... you be the judge. personally, i think it sounds like st. anger with guitar solos... minus the trash can snare though. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/KYO9hxTVskk&hl=en"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/KYO9hxTVskk&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
The snare was my biggest complaint about the St. Anger album...that and the lack of solos. Hopefully this album is a bit of a return to form for them. I even liked the Load/Reload albums.
Many, such as myself, are kind of considering this Metallica's last chance. They finally let Bob Rock go and brought in Rick Rubin to produce which I think was definantly a good move for them. I am staying cautiously optimistic as to not get crushed again (See: St. Anger). But what many reviewers who got to hear the almost finished version of the album is all positive. TOuting it as a return to form. Lets hope...

They sold out, jumped the shark, and whatever other phrases you can think of. They'll always have a big fan base, but when you were once heavy metal gods....I don't know. Whatever. F**k them. Megadeth FTW.
at what point did they sell out? .. and justice (first album after cliff) one (first music vid) black album (softer side) s&m (SF symphony) st. anger (no solo) i'm not saying they didn't. i just want to know when you thought they did.
I think he was referring to the fact that 1. Everything's been basically crap after the black album 2. they led the charge against Napster. (they could have let someone else do it. It would have happened eventually.)
i know its a remake, but i like this song too <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Gh1J4rTgVgE&hl=en"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Gh1J4rTgVgE&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Why exactly are bands considered sellouts when they try to take their sounds into different territories? Or when they increase their fan base and popularity? I'll be looking forward to this one.
Meh, they put a bad taste in my mouth with the whole Napster thing. I'll still give it a listen, though. And count me in with the 'Black and before was better' crowd.
