I just got through repairing my van's dash and putting a "back-up" radio in it. Today (well yesterday to most of you) between the time I got home from picking up my son from school around 3:10 PM and going out to grab a bite in the evening around 7 PM, someone got in my van and stole my head unit! Right in my driveway!!! The sickening part wasn't that it was new, or that it even was very fancy... it was a nine year old Clarion ARX63?? tape deck with cd/changer controls for cryin' out loud! It had a flip down, detachable face and a remote... and that's what they stole, the face plate and remote. Geniuses! I had an even older Clarion tape deck that happens to use the same wiring harness to put in as a "get-me-by" but the whole thing ticks me off. Anyway, the sickening part still wasn't that the unit ran a 12 disc changer, but the technology is obsolete now so I'll have to ditch the whole setup. Oh well, time for an mp3 playing unit... no biggie there. Well, some of you have read about the tragic events in my daughter's life this last september... the thing that makes me the most irate about this whole theft is that my daughter was crying because she "can't listen to Kwismas carrols"... THAT's the SICKENING PART!!! I can't stand punk theives!! The nostalgia aspect alone is the part that cannot be replaced. The radio had a station labeling function, and on the station that plays the Christmas music I had labeled it "KWISKWUS" because when my daughter first could talk, this is how she said Christmas... So, I have just finished with installing my other, older, radio so my daughter, and son, can listen to the holiday music... The officers were not going to come out and make a report since no one was hurt and no other property was damaged, which I was fine with... but then on a hunch from my dad, who reminded me of a burglary we'd gone through in '88, I went looking in the trash can behind my house... Nope, no radio... but "what's that? A wallet? In the bottom of my trash can?" So I called the officer to come out, and they picked it up for prints, etc. Seems the thief heard my dog barking, grabbed the faceplate and remote, then dropped the wallet in my trash. The officer said it's not uncommon for a thief to dump his/her previous victims' stuff in the trash of the next house he/she hits... So I hope they find the petty, good-for-nothin' thief. The ironic thing is, we had a brand new, in the box w/receipt surveillance camera w/nightvision and monitor in the back of the van at the time, as well as my amp, cd changer (right there under the driver's seat, unbolted), and my isobaric mounted 15" JL subs all in plain view... the dummy even left some cash, and a bluetooth earpiece for my cell phone right in the same cup holder he/she took the remote from! Idiot. Well if my little girl and boy had to go without their Christmas music for one evening because of a brilliant criminal wannabe... Merry Crappin' Ha Ha to you then, idiot. May you go to jail for every offense. Sorry, I had to rant. It's therapuetic for me.
Sorry to hear abou that, IROC. A couple years ago my friend's Blazer was stolen from the parking lot of his apartment on Oltorf (East Austin). The police found it a few days later off of some road a few miles away. All of his tools (he used to do work on boats in Clear Lake) were missing, but the theif left his crappy oil stained acid-washed denim jacket in the backseat. It's funny what people will leave behind durning a crime. As for people not realizing what is of value: A year ago my friend's van got broken into while we were hiking down in Twin Falls. The theives took his Pioneer head unit along with a subwoofer and 2 6x9's, but left a Gibson Les Paul, Ibanez bass and Peavy head unit untouched. You'd think they would know what is of value, but I guess they only steal what they can sell.
Damn that sucks IROC it, I'm sure that person will get caught in the long run anyway.. I remember when I was little and my family first moved to Houston, a few weeks after we got here we bought a new jeep and THE FIRST day we got it home the tape deck was stolen out of it.. People are dumb
Sorry to hear about that IROC. I'm not sure this would work in this case, but you might check local pawn shops. Crooks aren't too smart nor are they too ambitious - they won't travel far to steal or unload what they stole. But I'm not sure a ps owner would give them anything for their "loot" in this case.
wow that sucks i got a story too... my brother goes to school at U of Penn in Philly and lives in a crappy area, b/c the school is surrounded by the ghetto...anyways, when he was moving he was moving a refrigerator but had to poop real bad. so he went inside not thinking anyone would run off with it. but in those 8 or so minutes while he was poopin somebody stole the refregerator. to say the least... my brother was shocked. who the hell does that?
It funny now, btw. Who steals a cassette player? Better yet, just the face of one? Upon further review, they also took a 6 dollar flashlight and a box of blank church bulletin covers. Serial printers? In the dark? I'm actually glad no one was hurt. And my wife helped me clean out the garage on "my" side so I could park inside now. gbritton... who steals a fridge in 8 mins? ..or takes a dump for that long? btw- did you notice your post was about (well, included) taking a dump, and the title of the thread is "Merry Crappin' Ha Ha to you then?"
