I want to wish everyone on the board a very Merry Christmas and the happiest of holidays.

I say this because as of right now, my step mom (the one who raised me) just under went her first chemotherapy treatment. At first she had stage 1, a ductal carcinoma but first findings found nothing malignant. Then, they did and she had to have a second surgery and in addition to the radiation she now has I think 6 to 8 weeks of chemo. On top of that, my birth mom now apparently is in the first stages of dementia because according to one of my close relatives she can scarcely form a complete thought or it takes forever for it to happen. :(

Thus, on previous threads if I perhaps don't appear all there maybe you can understand now somewhat why. Not an easy time for me right now. I lost my Dad four years ago this March.

I am trying to pump myself up and be strong for my moms. So, I thought saying something on here and redirecting my focus may help me this holiday season.

So, not to grandstand or anything like that. I just say this with absolute sincerity appreciate your moms and dads while they're here. You may think they're assholes or don't understand but, if you fuss over everything possible, you will miss out on the most important part of life and that is fond memories with them and all your loved ones.

Kudos to RM95, for my previous post on my step mom. I know just this all maybe is a little too nice even for me but, hey I can't be an ******* everyday. LOL!

In a way this all is kind of therapeutic for me ...

Seriously, though appreciate your family for all their faults and shortcomings because at the end of the day all you have left is photos and memories of your loved ones. Whether they're positive ones or not, well that part is up to you! :D

Imagine what kind of world this would be if we focused more on forgiveness rather than constantly rushing to judgment. If we focused more on what we have rather than what we get. Just saying ...

I wish that we truly may have peace on earth this season. That's my wish. :)

Take care and God Bless to you and your family this holiday season.

    Scott

Great post. I hope your moms both get to feeling better and come out on the other side of these difficult times ok. I don't see my folks nearly as much as I should, but they really are the most amazing people I know and there is no way I could ever repay them for all they've done for me.

Hang in there Scott, and I hope you and everyone else have a Merry Christmas!

Oh man this made me cry.... My mother had a heart surgery this October too and I am stuck in this town and cannot go home. :(

Best wishes to your family, and, do cheer up and enjoy what you have now.

God bless, man. And Merry Christmas.
Young'uns, you may not appreciate your parents now. I KNOW that when I left for college, I didn't. But I (gulp) moved back in with my parents to finish school. And I really like being around them and hanging out with them now.
And guys, they say a great way for a girl to learn how he's going to treat her is to see how he treats his mother. If you want to ease her soul, treat your mother right.

It seems like a lot of us on here have dealt with cancer as a patient or as a relative of a patient:(
I'm so glad we're here for each other. It really does help in clearing themind.

Hatemavs4life,the best thing to do is just that, stay strong. when i was going through it, i would find motivation in my sister. Her passion for life would brighten my days. so stay strong!

    wishing you the best,
    vladimir M.

I wanted to say thanks to all who posted and hope you had a blessed and happy christmas! It's good to know that even though we may categorically disagree on other basically superfluous topics in comparison to real life situations, we all mostly agree on one thing. It is the human element of staying connected, relaying information, drawing from personal experiences that gives us courage and strength to withstand whatever storms in life may befall us. That regardless of our race, creed, socioeconomic backgrounds we all are cut from the same cloth and we all bleed the same color.

I was with my step mom yesterday along with my uncle and his common law wife along with dozen or so papillion dogs. LOL! Yep, it was a barnyard. Those dogs have so much energy it should be considered illegal. :D

Yeah the cancer thing, man. I have a friend (just four years my senior) who in 2000, early 2001 contracted colon cancer. My maternal grandmother died of breast cancer in 1976. My paternal grandfather died of brain cancer in 1996. My step mom's mom died of cervical cancer in 2002. Unfortunately there are plenty more examples to pick from as well. :(

Again thanks to all for your comments and sharing of yourselves and personal experiences. I know my step mom will pull through because she's a tough ol broad and she along with the Marine Corps made me one tough SOB as well.

Hopefully the same will be said for my birth mom but, the prognosis in this case is not good. :(

I'll update as news becomes available.

Take care everyone and may this coming New Year bring us ALL (especially the Rockets, well I can dream can't I :D ) better fortune and happiness.

    Have a Happy New Year!

    Scott

Both my mother and my mother-in-law are breast cancer survivors. Thoughts and prayers are out to you.
