I wonder what is going to happen to Reliant Stadium... http://www.ajc.com/business/mirant-rri-energy-combining-454225.html Energy providers Mirant Corp. and RRI Energy Inc. said Sunday they are combining in a $1.61 billion stock-swap deal, renaming the company and creating a utility powerhouse that will become one of the nation's largest independent power producers. The combined company, which will have a market capitalization of about $3.1 billion, will be called GenOn Energy.
boo! i hope they dont rename the stadium. if they ever did, i hope to not have a dumb company name on it (even though they pay a lot of money to have their name on the stadium) and just call it texans stadium or something.
i know, but im saying id rather stick with reliant stadium than "genon" stadium. and if it were up to me, i wouldnt have a company name. its called fundamentals of reading
Huh?!?!? No... that's not what you're saying... here's what you're saying: If you were saying that, then you would have typed it.
Name will stay Reliant Stadium. This was a merger with the commercial side of Reliant. NRG bought the retail side of Reliant a while ago, but Reliant still kept the name because it's a part of their brand.
Reliant did not merge...RRI did. RRI is the production side of Reliant, which split off last year. Reliant Energy is still Reliant.
I'm just wondering what happened to HL&P. And I got all these Texas Commerce checks I don't know what to do with.
Meh. Corporate stadium names aren't sweet names. Reliant Stadium? FedEx Field? Ford Field? No thanks. Yankee Stadium, Lambeau Field, Fenway Park. I'll stick with old school classic names.
I miss the classic names of stadiums too, like the coliseum, mile high, soldier field. The names related to the team or the city's identity. Reliant energy is not a name but a sponsor. We might as well have the name blue bell stadium or HEB creamy creations. All that said, I'm used to reliant. I would not want it renamed, unless it was something classic and cool. Battlefield stadium? wear your battle red.
Why all the "Reliant Stadium" love? If it HAS to be a corporation, why not something like Blue Bell or St. Arnolds? Treasures Field has a nice ring to it.
There is 0% chance the stadium gets renamed as a result of this. Reliant Energy was split into two companies .... Reliant Energy Retail Electricity - including the Reliant name and Astrodome complex lease - was purchased by NRG Energy last May. The Reliant name is now owned by NRG and is used in Texas. RRI Trading is an independent power generator that holds around 15,000 KW of generation in PA, CA, NJ, IL, MS, TX, FL, and OH. These guys will merge with Mirant, who was spun off from Southern Company in 2001. Yeah, I worked at RRI from 1999-2004. We had killer Texans tickets back then. Too bad David Carr was QB.
The Toyota Center was never the Summit. That's like saying they should change the name of Minute Maid Park back to the Astrodome.
