if we could get mercer our lineup could look like this in the future:

    pf:martin
    sf:mercer
    c :cato
    sg:anderson/mobley
    pg:francis

Yeah i would do that. The deal really would be Rogers for Mercer. I looked at mercers stats and man they are impressive. He is averaging 19.2 ppg.

I think anyone here would do that deal, but only for the reason that that trade would be so darn lop-sided for us.

Let's be real. They are going to want a 2 guard within that value range to replace him. Sort of Steve Smith/ Isiah(don't call me J.R.) Rider on a smaller scale.

We would be looking to give up Mobley or Anderson first and foremost to them.

You really want Mercer then be prepared to part with someone you like. Not the team scrubs.

I'm not even that excited personally about Mercer. Mercer is a good 2 guard and all but if we get him then we are gonna watch him long term with Francis, and that just fails to excite me.

I don't really want the guy. Other trades will come along in my mind that will be better. In fact I'd rather add Kendall Gill into our lineup without having to give up Mobley or Anderson. That truly keeps this team running, fresh, and exciting.

I would pull off that trade in a second! The only problem is that Denver wouldn't go for it. They'd have to be idiots to accept only Walt, Carlos, and Drew.

NO WAY DO WE TRADE MOBES AND ROGERS!! I would consider trading Rogers, Williams, and Drew, but no way do we trade Mobley, Rogers, and Williams.

I really like Carlos Rogers(he has played his heart out) and Cat Mobley.

I was devastated when we traded Michael Dickerson (not that i don't LOVE stevie wonder, but i still miss the guy)

...no way is cat leaving too

i dont know, its probably just a loyalty problem i have (sounding more and more like Rudy, aren't i?)
i just can't see mobes in another uniform right now

Mobley should only be traded in the case of a guaranteed star.

This guy is already performing very well for us even though he still has quite a few kinks in his game.

Kinks - Mobley somtimes begins jacking from 20 feet on consecutive plays like there is no tommorrow. When he gets this out of system, he will have a better all around game.

Mobley's offense currently is limited to fast breaks, and isolation plays for himself. This is where he needs to add the element of moving without the ball, and working within a motion offense. When he can catch and shoot effectively running off screens, shooting from mid range as well and limiting how much he has to dribble before attempting a field goal. This will make him more of a headache for the defender.

Palming is another issue that he has problems with but which is certainly cureable.

Shooting he used to have a problem with but now is excelling at. Just showing us that he is a talent bent on improving.

As far as being so gung ho about trading Drew, I just can't support. Drew is already showing this season that he is the Rockets best outside shooter besides Matt Bullard. He also has plays very smart basketball. Probably the best characteristic though is his constant search for the open man. He runs the pick and roll with Thomas and Cato to perfection thus far.

Drew's trajic flaw is his defense. While he is alert, it appears to me that Drew who has no court prescence, can not intimidate the offensive player at all. I watch this guy stick his hand up in people's face only to get J-ed again and again.

His other flaw is a relative inability at this point to lead a fast break. Drew forces nothing and will pull up often on the break. He will hit the open man if there is one. But if their is not he will not attempt to get fouled going to the basket.

That said I think both Mobes and Drew are going to be around this team for awhile. Rudy likes this nucleus of young guards. Especially since they are still in development and already performing. Don't expect either to leave easily.

CaucasionSensation, the only reason the Rockets would trade for Gill is to free up cap space in the offseason. I doubt they would really resign him.

Mercer would be and interesting idea. I may even be willing to give up Anderson only because so far I am not really impressed. He hasn't done much to warrant keeping him. I would trade Rogers, Williams and Drew if they would accept the trade Brahma proposed, even though it is a bit lop-sided.

FIRST of all... Mercer is not a big small forward, he's a big shooting guard. he's probably more comfortable at the 2, but can shift over at the 3.

personally, the only way i see the rocks asking for mercer is if he agrees to sign a long-term contract with the rocks before the trade goes through. we don't need him for the year, we need him for the future. and the only way denver will go for the deal is if they give up another 2 guard packaged with Walt, or possibly just our 1st round pick in 2000. and i don't think denver would want Cat, since they already have a pg that takes alot of shots and a pf that doesn't get enough shots. so they'd probably want shandon more.

Pimp, you misunderstood my post. I am in support of a trade for Gill. But not if it involves Mobley. If it involves Rogers, then say by-bye Carlos.

Dream_Team, Mercer is not the 2 guard I want long term. He is convinced of the fact that he is one of the premier 2 guards in the NBA, which he is not. Thus he will want a premeir contract. He's not a guy I want to tie the Rockets organization down with.

Remember most people here want a run and gun team. Up and down the floor, no more spot up and shoot. Mercer is known for his shooting. Not for his slashing or quickness or defense. For me adding Gill a slasher and premeir defensive stopper significantly adds another threat to the offense as well as defense and comes at a cheaper price than will a guard who is still trying to find that contract that will make him ultimately rich and set. He also fits into the new offensive scheme/theme that has accompanied the arrival of Francis and Anderson. We would also be giving up more in a trade for Mercer.
