Blount agrees to six-year, $41M deal with Celtics

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=1836258

Now I understand why CD is not rush for the backup Center! Becuz he had the answer already!!! Menk Bateer, who has been playing along with Yao at CNT for (How many yrs? someone please tell me!).... Plus we can sign him really really cheap (Vet minimum?) and shorter yrs (1 or 2 depends upon). AND WE STILL HAVE MLE AND TE:D

    need ur output.

Why don't we pick up Wang Zhizhi while we're at it.

No offense, but if we do that, we might as well make Pat Morita head coach, with Jack Soo, Gedde Watanabe, and Lisa Liu as his assistants.

OK- that comes across as racist, I'm sure, but really- why Bateer? There are 100s of players way better than him to pick up.

And anyway, wouldn't Pat Morita actually make a good coach? Look at what he did for the Karate Kid!!

If there are so many of them that are better that would sign for the minimum, who are they?

Please just list a dozen that are willing to take league minimum and still better than Bateer? That guy is bigger and stronger than Cato. He is a bit slow and fouls a lot, but he still ate Pavel alive in the CNT-Mavs matchs.

For league minimum he is well worth it.

Forget Wang! He is a soft meatloaf who spends more time looking for 3pt shots than fighting in the paint.

I am not against Menk but we would still need one other backup C. I think we need a big guy like Menk or Osterfat, but we also need a quick long backup that can defend smaller line-ups.

i agree... we can have him for the minimum... and he is more than capable of going in there for 10 minutes a game to spell Yao.

unlike Wang Zhizhi, Bateer will rebound. we don't need a center popping threes, which is about all Wang does at this point in his career.

Given that Blount got that huge contract, i dont see us getting anyone better than Bateer unless we drastically overpay. Bateer is more than adequate for a backup center.

And Howard played some Center in the East so he can be our 3rd center against small lineups

I definitely think we should get bateer. If Yao plays aggressively against us IF he meets us in the olympics or against other countries then I think it might be the company of his fellow china players that help him play up to his potential. We all know that as close as he is to everyone else. It's hard to match the closeness you get with a fellow countryman. He's cheap. Why not take a chance. If they can take a chance on alton ford and some of the players they did last year. They can do it with bateer. If not for the skills, then as least the interaction btw yao and bateer.

Bateer is good for international basketball but not for NBA. He is big, he is strong, he has post moves, he can shoot. But why couldn't he get minutes even in Toronto, a team desperately needed center last year? And why did he lead the league in foul per minute? The reason: He's way too slow. Against fast NBA players, he couldn't defend except fouling. I don't think he'll contribute a lot on Rockets.

Bateer played at Spurs and Raptors for two years, but didn't get much play time. I think it is because he doesn't speak english and he had no help. If he is put aside Yao, he can learn what is going on and play much better.

Please forward this idea to CD.

No league minimum player should be expected to contribute a lot on any team.

He played Pavel head on last week, ate Pavel alive. I believe that proves something. He can defende, as long as he plays in a system he understands. That was not the case with Raptors. Bateer speaks little English, I read somewhre. That is why.

Bateer is more than adequate for a backup center? You gonna be kidding me!

If that were the case, Denver should have kept him, Toronto should have kept him, or Magic should have kept him instead of cutting him immediately after the trade. In case you don't know, He never owned more than the minimum and he is a big man.

I saw him played couple times when he was a Rapter. He was just terrible on the floor; super slow, less active, couldn’t run the floor, lost his man easily, he was strong but he was a fouling machine. I remember he got 5 fouls in 4 mins once. Lonny Baxter took his backup role immediately after he was traded to Toronto. Lonny Baxter, have you ever heard of him? And he was clearly better than Bateer.

Being a big man, he couldn’t even find a job for half of the season after the cut. Does that mean something to you?

it's one of those things where if he had more minutes... he'd be better. plus our team has good team d, he won't be asked to do too much.
