Thinking about the "Could you take on a WNBA player?" thread wondering if there are sports where women compete against men and do better than them? I know that Billy Jean King beat Bobby Riggs but given how much tennis has become a power game could women tennis pros ever compete against males? I know that Annika Sorenstram and Michelle Wie have come close to making the cut in PGA tournaments could women end up being able to compete regularly against men in golf? What about endurance sports?
I also remember that CU had a women kicker for a while but wondering about if women could play positions in other team sports with men? Could a woman with quick hands and a sharp eye play shortstop for the MLB
Ping pong maybe there's no advantage either way? Not sure. Pool (billiards) ? Bowling? I have no data on any of these..just guessing. With running or something, the best women could clearly compete with some of the very good men...but best vs. best the times say the women would lose. (I guess the comparison doesn't work since then you could say WNBA players could beat high school men's teams) About a female playing SS...I bet there are a number who could, maybe using Eckstein-like technique to compensate for the lack of arm strength comparatively. But hitting is where they'd suffer..
When Billie Jean King beat Bobby Riggs, she was in the prime of her career (age 29) and Riggs was 53 years old. The whole match was a joke. Women tennis pro's can never compete against the men pro's. First of all the men's tennis serve is so much more powerful along with the ground shots. I think any Division I men's tennis player can easily beat any of the top female tennis players out there like Justin Henin or Serena Williams.
I don't know about the other thing, but in ping-pong men still have the advantage in power and speed. I doubt the top women ping pong players can beat the top male ping pong players.
Any "sport" that doesn't require physical contact or playing/competing directly against each other, you know where they have to take turns. Or any "sport" where judging is involved. Examples: bowling, pool, diving, ice skating, gymnastics, etc.
i was WAITING for someone to say that...thanks for bringin that topic to reality... i think in a game where physical contact/overpowering the other person is the key to success the men clearly have the advantage... example: Anika Sorenstam would probably beat Greg Norman in 18 but i DON'T THINK Dina Tausasi could beat Calvin Murphy and i seriously doubt Chamique Holdsclaw/Lisa Leslie/Candice Parker could beat Bill Walton or even Hakeem in a 1 on 1...to make it even more fair, i don't think they could beat Rudy T or even Rick Barry... in a non physical game, i think the women have a good shot at winning...
When they asked the coach about her alleged sexual assault he basically said she was so bad she deserved to get assaulted. Or umm... Something somewhat close to that. Kinda
