What have you heard and/or what are your thoughts? I've only skimmed it on espn.com's front page and Bill Simmons take-it-with-a-grain-of-salt take in his column today. If it's really true, the Griz are pretty dumb. If Gasol comes back from his injury, I'd rather trade away Warrick and Miller while their stock is still high. But that's just me.
It's been bounced around, largely by newspapers in other cities (Chicago). Memphis papers have flatly denied it, citing the pending sale of the franchise. It would make sense that they won't make major moves until the new ownership takes over, unless cutting salary is something that would seal the deal. I think chances are very small in the near future. However, I'd expect a major overhaul of the roster and managment (West, Fratello) once the deal is completed. Evan
It strikes me as BS too. I can perhaps see a trade after new ownership takes over since they apparently think they can field a competitive team on a smaller payroll.
how abt mac for pau and m-miller? pau solves our problem at the pf position, and miller can flat out shoot.... imagien how good we could be...
and who's going to be our playmaker? our catalyst? the guy who gets our team easy points with pinpoint passes?
We should trade MemphisX for a 20 year old myspace hottie and Leroy Jenkins from World of Warcraft....
Gasol and Yao seem to be very similar in where on the floor they need to play to be effective. I would think that they might not be ideally suited to play together. I also think that if I were the GM of Memphis I might have second thoughts about trading a relatively young Pau Gasol for a chronically injured and potentially on the downslide T-Mac.
Hmmm Players I would trade for T-mac if for a 1 for 1 trade.. Paul Pierce Dwayne Wade Steve Nash Josh Howard ( I would want Josh Howard over T-Mac of now ) Gilbert Arenas even Vince Carter ( Because he still acts like Vince Carter ) ( Tracy doesnt act like T-Mac at the moment ) Kobe ( You have to admit Kobe still has that tenacity to drive and attack the rim... he might shoot as much as T-mac but at least his % is higher )
Your kidding right? You wouldnt want Pual and MIller for T-mac? I bet if you did a poll around the league 90 Percent would pull that deal in a heartbeat...Now Memphis would not do that deal... Rockets would be raping them on that...
Forget Pau... we don't have enough to get him and he doesn't really fit anyway. If they are going to blow it up, look at the other talent and see if we can help the Grizz out with some cap relief or as part of a 3-way. Like others, I am intrigued by Miller. Win Now! (or at least in the next 3 years)
Pau isn't going anywhere! That's crazy. Here is an article from the local paper, The Commercial Appeal, regarding the trade rumors. http://www.commercialappeal.com/mca/grizzlies/article/0,1426,MCA_475_5176778,00.html Heisley says Gasol's not being traded Story Tools E-mail this story | Print By Ronald Tillery Contact November 29, 2006 DENVER -- Grizzlies president Jerry West privately rolled his eyes at the notion. His boss, the team's majority owner Michael Heisley, has a more difficult time sitting back and digesting frivolous trade rumors. Advertisement Three-day-old conjecture that All-Star Pau Gasol is available for a trade compelled Heisley to issue a public service announcement to the rest of the NBA. From Heisley, with disdain: Don't bother calling. "There's no damn way that anybody is going to trade Pau Gasol," Heisley said, his voice booming through the telephone. "I'm telling you that ain't going to happen. That's out the window." Heisley reacted Tuesday to growing speculation generated first by a New York report that said the Boston Celtics had inquired about Gasol. While that is true, the Celtics were rebuffed just like any team would be barring an offer that included one of the league's megastars (i.e. Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, etc). Even that sounds nonsensical, which was Heisley's point. But that didn't stop a Chicago columnist from proposing a swap with the Chicago Bulls. "Here's a scoop," Heisley said. "I'm going to contact Cleveland to try and get LeBron James. So put in the paper that Cleveland's interested in getting rid of LeBron James. "Why would we trade our franchise player? Just like why would the Lakers trade Kobe Bryant? Why would Cleveland trade LeBron James? That's not going to happen. We're not trading Pau." Heisley said he's confident Gasol would remain a Grizzly for a long time, even with the team's pending sale. Heisley is expected in Memphis on Friday -- the same day the local owners must decide whether they intend to match Brian Davis' offer to purchase Heisley's 70-percent share. Heisley said he also plans to address several matters involving the team. "We've got to do a better job of selling tickets," said Heisley, whose main purpose for visiting is to participate in the Grizzlies' involvement with Lift Up America. Beginning Friday morning at 9 on the FedExForum Plaza, more than 30,000 pounds of Tyson products will be distributed to the Memphis Food Bank and other area social service agencies. Grizzlies players Eddie Jones, Rudy Gay, Kyle Lowry, Alexander Johnson, Dahntay Jones, Mike Miller and Jake Tsakalidis will join initiative partners, fund providers and agency representatives to help distribute donated items.
Actually we would be worse off than now. Having Pau Gasol next to Yao would not be the best way to go, IMO. Now, if we can get a Ben Wallace/Dennis Rodman PF, that would be ideal. We need a guy who will do the dirty work next to Yao and dominate on defense.

Damn I gotta remember to tell some of you guys who are talkin about trading T-Mac for people like Pau Gasol, Paul Pierce, and Josh Howard to get off his nuts come playoff time.
