I think he's a fantastic scorer. I think he's deserving of max dollars based on his production and the current market value. I'm happy we won't be the ones committing to him, because I don't consider him a truely elite player who will lead a team to postseason success. That's just my opinion of him. Evan
I'm talking NBA. How many guys since 1990 have gone from leading a NCAA champ squad to leading an NBA champ squad? Back in the day, you had Walton, Kareem, MJ, Isiah, and Bird. I haven't seen that in a while, with one posiible exception. Duncan didn't win it all in college. Shaq didn't. Kobe's obviously a no. Rip might count, but I don't know if he led either team per se. Dream and Clyde were ringless at the collegiate level, too. In today's game, college success doesn't always translate. Evan
No, I just don't find Melo's one spectacular season at Syracuse to be valid evidence that he's a franchise player for the Nuggets or will lead them to an NBA championship. I don't really have a problem seeing McGrady as an elite player, no. On the other hand, he isn't in the penthouse yet since he doesn't have a ring and while he's been first team all-NBA twice, he's isn't a perenial lock. I'm not saying my opinion is worth more than anyone else's, but it is mine and I'm happy to drop it into threads like this. When I look at Anthony, I see an extremely capable scorer and not a whole lot else. I don't see anything that puts him above, say, Larry Johnson pre-back issues (led UNLV to the '90 NCAA championship, 1st overall pick, unstoppable inside-outside guy with the Hornets). I don't see an awful lot of defensive effort, ability to create for others, or leadership. I think the last Olympics wasn't a misunderstanding but a truthful glimpse of his character. I think he's displayed questionable maturity and work ethic in his first few years, but has gotten much much much better in those areas under George Karl. I don't hate the guy, I hope he does well, but if I were a GM, I wouldn't be killing myself to try and get him on my team. I'm sure not everyone agrees with that, but it's what I see. Evan
