Strange but true: there is a diner on the edge of Fort Bragg, NC that is called "Osama's Place." The place has been in operation for about 3 years with a strong military clientele which has NOT fallen off since September 11. The owner, who is from the ME, says that Osama is a common name like John or Bob in the Arab world.

It may not be so common in the future (though who knows).

It's my understanding that Adolph was once a popular German name, at least until WWII.

Your're right there. Adolph was once a very popular name.

I fear some idiot will torch Osama's Place. I think it would be wise to change the name.

In the wake of the Gulf War, thousands of Arabic newborns were named Saddam to honor the Arab hero who stood up to the West...

I suspect Osama (Usama) is about to become an even more popular name in those quarters.

Yeah, probably. That's just how some people work.
