This is from Lance Zierlein's twitter... LanceZierlein A little birdie says tells me bob mcnair not too interested in cowher and that massive contract that he will be asking for. Lance is extremely reliable as evidence by the Haynesworth signing and spilling the beans a tad early.
whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy maybe McNair is just trying to be loyal to Kubiak until the season is over
Ladies and gentleman welcome to My Life starring Michael Keaton It's his money, doesn't mean I have to like it.
It's too early to speculate what is happening behind the scenes (at the very least, McNair is looking at options). Besides, it's Carolina's job to lose.
I think Cowher is a LONGshot anyway, even if we did throw him a boatload of cash. Wouldn't mind going after Gruden or Billick, but both may be expensive as well. What everybody is overlooking, and I know nobody wants to think about it right now, is that we might get the cream of the crop when it comes to coordinators on the rise that may be ready for head coaching gigs. Looking at the success Mike Smith, Harbaugh, and Peyton have had, we can still find a good coach. Obviously the argument against that is that we already tried that with Kubiak. And by the way, I think Lance's source is full of it on this one (unless it is Cal Mcnair). No way Bob would share that kind of information with anyone at this point.
I can think of 10000000 reasons. There are no guarantees in the nfl. I can find three year stretches where cowher had mediocre records.
Depends on your definition of mediocre. He did miss the playoffs 3 seasons in a row once. Outside of that, he never missed the playoffs in consecutive years. He's also never had 3 straight losing seasons. In fact, he's only had 3 losing seasons in his entire career.
When was the last time the Texans ever made the playoffs...? Cowher may have had some mediocre seasons. But the Texans AT THEIR BEST had some mediocre seasons. Pretty sad, isn't it.
92 11-5 93 9-7 94 12-4 95 11-5 96 10-6 97 11-5 98 7-9 99 6-10 00 9-7 01 13-3 02 10-5-1 03 6-10 04 15-1 05 11-5 06 8-8 In 11 of his 15 seasons in the NFL he managed to have winning records. In 8 years the Texans have not been able to accomplish this once.
98-00 years were mediocre, and how many years did it take him to win a superbowl? I am not saying he is not great a coach, but what if he comes in here and we have a three year stretch where we go 9-7 do we then want to fire him. Coaches get fired in the nfl even when winning.
I don't believe much of anything that is publicly stated in sports when it comes to coaches, especially when there is a coach in place.
I'm fine with not being interested in Cowher if it's because he'd want to change to a 3-4 (and have to change personnel to make it work) which might make it take another 3 years before we have a shot at a winning season or something like that. But if the main issue is money then that's extremely disappointing.
Why do people say that about the 3-4 taking 3 years to win? Do people not realize that other teams make these transitions and it doesn't take them that long? We are not any closer to having a good 4-3 defense than we are to having a good 3-4 defense despite the fact that we've been running the 4-3 for 4 years.
