http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2119509 The New Jersey Nets have reached an agreement with free-agent point guard Jeff McInnis, the New York Post reported Friday. New Jersey, which has already added Shareef Abdur-Rahim this offseason, will get a two-year, $7 million contract when the CBA is completed and teams are allowed to sign free agents, the paper reported. "The Nets really did a masterful job with this," said McInnis' agent, Steve Kauffman. "They sought out Jeff with professional precision and [coach] Lawrence Frank played a big part." McInnis averaged 12.8 points and 5.1 assists in 76 games last season with the Cleveland Cavaliers. He joins a roster of double-digit scorers that now inlcudes Jason Kidd, Vince Carter, Richard Jefferson, Abdur-Rahim and Nenad Krstic.
Very interesting. McInnins had a pretty good season last year, starting for Cleveland. I should know, he was on my fantasy team. But I kinda figured he'd go somewhere and start, due to the breakout year. Hmmmm....
Terrible, terrible move. The guy has more problems than game, and he has some game. This is Thorn's thorn.
They seem to be following the Phoenix Suns plan of rotating 6 offensive players and trying to outscore everybody. Course it looks like the Suns aren't going to be playing like that anymore.
Why would McInnis do this? He's always whined about coming off the bench. He could start for some teams. Who's going to play PG in Cleveland? Snow? Or did they bring someone else in that I'm forgetting?
Did he forget that Kidd and Carter are gonna be logging 35+ mins a game? I'm assuming that the Cavs didn't want him back, even at that reduced contract rate.
Because this is Jason Kidd we're talking about here. Chances are pretty good he'll pull up lame at some point during the season.
I like this move by the Nets. To preserve Kidd's career they need to be able to rest him more in games and thus need a decent backup PG to take over those minutes. I know McInnis is somewhat of a headache, but he is a decent talent. He knows he is going there as a backup. The Nets have a nice starting lineup and are getting a nice bench together with McInnis, Cliff Robinson, Antione Wright and Jason Collins.
