I know this is really early on, but i think it is the generally held belief that Yao will probably retire with us and have his number retired as well.

My question is, where will Tracy's number be retired? Will it even be retired?
He is an excellent player and people will undeniably remember him, but is he that beloved to our franchise?

Understand that the hypothetical circumstances of his retirement would be how he is today: no 2nd round, no rings, etc.

    Thoughts?

One other thing, if no, what will it take for his number to be retired?

To be honest he hasn't been with any team long enough to have his number retired without winning a ring.

Maybe if he stays with the Rockets he might but unless he wins a ring or an MVP or something, it's hard to imagine his name near Hakeem's...as much as I love T-Mac.

It would have to be Houston. 4 years in Orlando without winning is not enough to retire his jersey.

Why would you make the choices "with rockets without going to the second round", and "with rockets if he wins a championship"?? No room for in between? The poll is flawed. Stockton and Malone never won a championship, I guess that means their numbers shouldn't be retired.

If McGrady Continues to put up these numbers for number of more years and we progress in the playoffs with or without a championship, His number should be hung up in the stadium.

Stockton\Malone had something T-Mac will never be able to have with the Rockets: Longevity. Even if he finished his career with Houston, I doubt he serves 10 seasons with the Rockets. A title will be enough to look beyond the years thing. Dream was rare that he got the title, and the years. Rudy T had the years, but no title, same as Murph.

    T-Mac gets the title, its a shoo-in.

T-Mac plays 10+ years at a level at or close to what he is right now, (halfway there) its a shoo-in.

sadly, his number will not be retired.
this man is just unbelievably unlucky. i started to watch his game after he joined rox. 04-05, not passing first round, but who would say that was tmac's fault? this man did carry the team. only if jhoward didn't get that heart disease, or yao was a little more developed, or the refs weren't that dark..... very very sad ending of that season.
then 05-06. tmac stupidly put on 20 pounds and then his back got hurt. then rush back for the team was losing, then crash and season over. i never got why so many people questioned his heart. did you see how he fell on the floor in extreme pain in that dev game? a very unsuccessful season for him, someone of his training staff should be fired.
then 06-07. you can say this is tmac's fault. he didn't score 40 ppg. but to me what made utah win the series is defintely the mismatch of yao and boozer. yao cannot defned okur to the 3pt line, so he had to guard boozer. then nightmare.... this year is the most disappointing year.
then 07-08. yao again season over. ok blame it on tmac if you like.

i don't think tmac will be with rox next year. he will definitely be traded, because we cannot pass first round in the crazy west again. so his number won't be retired in any team. :(

but i will continue to support him. the 04-05 playoff has made me a tmac fan forever.

If he brings home a ring his number will be retired.

    That would be so awesome...

He wont have his number retired unless he wins a ring. Winning scoring titles and coming up short in the playoffs isn't all that endearing.

Doubtful. Hell, we probably would've retired Barkley's #4 had we won it all in '97.

I can't imagine T-Mac not having his number retired in Houston if he leads the Rockets to a title. He's already been here 4 seasons which is longer than Clyde played in a Rockets uniform.

agree, he has to win us a title if he wants his jersey up there.
either that or he has to be an rocket for life for him to be up there or hall of famer to be let in.

In the future, when they mention his name he will always be associated with the best 35 seconds of any NBA player :)

This got me wondering: If we win a title next year with Francis as a role player ... does he get his jersey retired?

Please, if he ends his career here his jersey will be retired regardless. I mean we have CD up there. His number will not be retired in Orlando because they dislike him there. Most of us love him here, and I can't imagine it not happening.

Lol. I really don't think that'll happen, but if he was a role player, he would have to be the sixth man, otherwise I doubt it.
