    Dressed but not ready

Tracy McGrady marked the occasion of his “target date” to return to the court by getting in uniform after his customary pregame workout. That, however, was as close as he came to beginning his comeback from last February's microfracture surgery.

Though the Rockets have only 11 active players, he remained on the team's inactive list in the locker room during the game.

“We have no timetable,” coach Rick Adelman said when asked about McGrady's return.
    ‘Hit a 3 for me'

With his first-half 3-pointer, Rockets forward Shane Battier has hit at least one trey in 24 consecutive games, the second-longest active streak in the NBA (behind Chicago's John Salmons).

“Chase (Budinger) told me,” Battier said, having learned about the streak on Tuesday. “Now I think about it. I told my wife (Wednesday) morning. She thinks he jinxed me.

“My wife and I, every day before I leave for the gym, have for our entire relationship (since high school) said, ‘Hit a 3 for me.' Now it's ‘hit a 3 for me and Z (their son, Zeke).' So I always try to get one for them.”
    Teacher watches student

University of Minnesota coach Tubby Smith, the former Kentucky coach, attended the game to watch his former player, Rockets center Chuck Hayes. This was not an unusual practice for Smith, who has enough former players in the NBA to personally help boost the Timberwolves' attendance.

“He's always in the front row,” Hayes said. “He comes to see (Rajon) Rondo, Kelenna (Azubuike), Tayshaun (Prince), myself. It's fun to see him. Whenever I do, it's such a joy. I've known this guy since I was 16. He helped me get where I am. It's the teacher watching the student play. It's a lot of fun.”

Nice read. Sadly, along with the other threads that happen to mention McGrady's name, this also will turn into a Mcgrady flame war.

Oh and apparently when he shoots from 8-9 metres from the ring, he is shooting 70%. After the game , he said that he just wanted to recover the feeling of wearing the playing clothes, because he hadn't worn them in a long time.

No word on T-Mac makes me believe he's done.

Post game quote by adelman "No timetable" for t-mac. Morey seems to be silent as well. Yet Tracy feels he was ready to play last night at minnesota according to that yahoo article. Is it me or does something feel a bit fishy....i mean nobody within the organization seems to be saying anything about when or if he will play.

I just think with the way the team has started off at 6-4, the rockets management feel this is probably the best time to trade him. I can't disagree.......i mean yao is out for the year even if t-mac comes in and lights it up its not like we are gonna win a championship. I'm sure his expiring contract is worth something to some team out there especially a team that feels he can come in and contribute this year and put them at a championship level like the suns, or dallas.

Have we seen the last of T-mac in a rockets uniform ?

Tracy has to play in a Rockets uniform this year whether DM and RA like it or not. If he doesn't play and produce some results, they won't be able to trade him for anyone other than Kwame Brown or Jerome James.

    - DM won't trade him for the sake of trading him, he'll only trade him if he can get them value. The size of his contract also makes him difficult to trade without getting overpaid garbage back (unless he manages to orchestrate some Pau Gasol type trade).

    - DM also can't let him expire because then we're only left with a bit more than the MLE to replace him as we're over the cap (unless we ship of other large pieces such as Yao to create room for a big FA like Bosh).

    - If DM won't trade him for trash and he can't let him expire, then his only option is to either resign him or trade him for someone good. For either of these two eventualities occur, they will have to play him. Either to showcase him to other teams, or see what his value is for resigning.

So you see, DM and RA's hands are tied. He will play, it's just a question of when. I saw within 3 weeks.

Maybe they want his contract to expire but don't want him to play.

mournful T-mac,I dont think this guy deserved this treatment,it is really unfair for him.everyone can not be avoid of injury. To some extent, yao is more injury-prone.why he got more consolation fROm the fans, which is totally contrary for T-mac.I hope coach RD could give this boy a new opportunity,T-mac prove urself.go rockets

lol so t-mac's progress went from "on track" to "done for the season"? they obviously don't want a time table because it will just cause more problems if T-Mac and the management can't make the target date.

lol I think this is a joke thread...Tmac is coming back soon, he is near game shape, just because Rick didn't give out a target date doesn't mean he is implying that tmac's career is finished

He might be finished, with the Rockets. Some signs do point to a trade being made.

There is no exact TIME TABLE for now because they still havent got the MRI results. once thats done and they look at the extend of the recovery then they will slowly get him to do more full court training drills and slowly get h's fitness up. i think he is probaly gonna be back by early to mid-december. to put him through the rigours of the nba without knowing if the knee has recoverd or not is utter stupidity

we cant say tracy is done before anyone see him playing on the courts again.

he should be given one more chance to prove himself,he is still an all-star title holder in this team,ok?I dont want everyone hate him.

after the final MRI diagnosis come out I believe there will be a set timetable for him.

    From Jonathan Feigen's blog yesterday...

Hi John. Will Tracy play today @ Wolves? How close is he?

(He is out. In September, the Rockets scheduled an MRI for Nov. 23. He will likely will practice Monday. The Rockets will begin evaluating his readiness to play then. -- Jonathan)

    Hope this helps...

I just hope he is not a distraction, and I am not a big fan of taking away minutes from our younger players in a transition year.

Is this the last of Air Bud? If Tracy is not traded, is a Battier trade inevitable?

McGrady’s suiting up for a game that he knew he wasn’t going to play in was an act of defiance. Management was very open about when he was going to have the MRI and what was expected of him before he was allowed to play. What Tracy’s doing is counter productive. The Rockets don’t need this type of drama right now.

All I want to mention in this thread is that we're doing especially well when you consider our strength of schedule. I looked our SOS up on ESPN. We're pretty high.

Random, but I thought it would alleviate a potential "flame war" of Trace'.

McGrady's minutes will more then like by around 28 to 30 minutes a game. for the first week r 2 he'll probaly get 14 to 21 minutes till he gets into game shape where he'll play from 28 to 30 minutes from there on.budinger wont see a hit. more likely battier and lowry will see there minutes reduced
