Tracy McGrady puts on a hitting display as Iverson and friends prevail, 17-16

July 10, 2004 - Bowie, MD -- In a Harlem Globtrotteresque move, the Allen Iverson Squad scored eight runs in the bottom of the last inning to complete a comeback on the WPGC All-Stars, 17-16 in the U.S. Coast Guard Allen Iverson Celebrity Softball Classic at Prince George's Stadium.

Houston Rockets guard Tracy McGrady slugged three home runs in four at bats, including a grand slam that highlighted the eight-run rally in bottom of the sixth for the Iverson Squad.

Fans were treated to an action packed show as "Lil Mo" highlighted the in-game ceremonies with her rendition of the America the Beautiful. A WWE style bench-clearing brawl broke out when a WPGC runner jokingly pushed over Rock Newman at home plate in the fourth inning. Though it was all in fun in a game that benefited the Boys and Girls Club of Southern Maryland among other children's charities.

Over 300 members of the Boys and Girls Club were on hand to see some of the NBA and entertainments hottest celebrities. Among the special guests to appear at Prince George's Stadium were McGrady, BET's Big Tigger, Richard "Rip" Hamilton of the Detroit Pistons, actor Kadeem Hardison, NBA Rookie of the Year Lebron James, actor Larenz Tate, former University of Maryland stars Steve Francis and Juan Dixon, and Iverson.

(hey, we've got to laugh about something ... the last couple days have been intense ...)

In the advertisment for the game, it says "celebrities like ... Francis ... will be in attendance to compete for charity. I assume "compete" means playing. I don't know which team he was on, though.

In the chronicle article, it stated that McGrady would ave been drafted by a major league baseball time if he had any interest in playing baseball. It also said the he felt he could be a minor league pitcher in the off season. So obviously Tmac has some baseball talent.

he does have talent... could probably hit better than half the Astros right now.

But... we don't need him screwing up his hammys or anything.... just keep hitting HR's T-Mac. (how cool would it be to see a celebrity game in Houston for the ASG, and have T-mac park one in the Crawford Boxes???)
