Miles looks like a garnett clone, but he ain't the only one out there. stevenson, the guy headed to kansas looks impressive, as does zac randolph and darius rice. Wallace, looks like he isntready for the nba, good thing he is going to college.

On a sad note, future UT baller brian boddicker looks outclassed, hopefully its just a bad night.

I'm sorry but Brian Boddicker didn't deserve to be there. Had a horrible senior year. Fell out of top 100 on quite a few lists. Was one of the last 3 players selected on the team. Wasn't on the final 32 players on the list that was compiled by high school beat writers across the nation to determine the McDonald's All Americans.. Instead, the head coach of DeMatha had the power to add i think 3 wild cards. Brian Boddicker was one of them. Quite a few high school experts speculate that it was racially motivated since the last 3 players that were added were white. None of those last 3 players were on the final 32 player list.

Darius Miles doesn't seem to have an off switch. That guy is EVERYWHERE! He's running non-stop on offense AND defense. I also liked Darius Rice and that Stevenson kid.

And before Will gets to take a shot at him, Miles looks like the Wicked Witch of the West on the Wizard of Oz.

Who was the Houston Cougar? And how did he play?

I would not mind the Rockets getting Darius Miles in the draft if 1)that's what Rudy thinks they need and 2)if Dermarr Johnson is off the board. Miles looks like a poor man's Garnett, which I'd take any day of the week. If Rudy thinks the Rockets can contend immediately, he might hesitate to draft a high schooler (something he doesn't like to do anyway). But since Steve, Shandon, Cuttino, Kenny, and Kelvin (our nucleus) are all young, perhaps the Rockets could afford to take their time building a better team for the future. On the other hand, maybe what we'll need is another veteran. But with Olajuwon, we'd still have an experienced leader next season.

My guess is he'll end up taking Morris Peterson because he's a senior and Rudy loves guys with experience in the draft. While I love Peterson as well, I hope that Rudy does not sacrifice too much talent for the sake of experience.

Alton Ford was the Houston Cougar. I guess he did okay, but he did pick up four fouls in the first half. He and George Williams are gonna form a pretty good frontcourt for Clyde next year. UH will make some noise next year!!!! [IMG]

Ford told Mark Berman he may not go to UH and is considering declaring for the draft.

i hope Ford doesn't do that. I think a lot of talented JUCO players (Falu, Taylor...) were supposed to join the UH squad next year too, i hope they don't change their mind just 'cause of Drexler's resignation.

Actually, bimathug, i think miles is better then garnett was, if u go by their high school senoir year. Miles seems to have better instincts, he seemed to know when the right time was to take off for the fast break. Not a shot at KG at all, but his game has grown leaps and bounds since he was 19.
I can't believe Miles is listed at 6'8", he looked closer to 6'10".

Ford had a nice game, showed alot of skills, but is definitely not ready for the NBA. i hope he heads to UH

Is Clyde staying as coach? I thought one time I heard he might only coach for a few seasons. Maybe I am just confused.

Isn't Alton Ford supposed to be the next 'shaq'? UH might do... as well as LSU in the early 90s [IMG]

gr8-1, I'm going to have to disagree with you about your assessment of KG as a high schooler. We're both going on our recollections, but I remember Kevin being a hybrid PF/SF. He was already tough to handle down low, although his moves (esp. his jump hook) are off the charts now. Yes, he's improved a ton, but he was the best player that year. Those that didn't think so picked Marbury. Miles, on the other hand, showed great ability to get out on the break, but no post-up game or outside shooting game. Darius RICE was the one that was stroking the outside jumper.

Darius Rice certainly was stroking that outside jumper - he looked pretty impressive too - but I don't recall Miles having to take a jumper. He seemed to be able to get to the hoop whenever he wanted, through sheer speed.
I was amazed at his speed up and down the court, especially with the dribble - one of the quickest players I've seen in a while - and he played some nice D and blocked some shots ( which the rockets NEED ).
If we get a low first rounder ( from Philly, Detroit or whoever ) then I say go for this guy !

triplebogey, i agree with you in that garnett was clearly the best player in his high school class. But, in garnetts day (not like it was that long ago), there weren't many 6'10 guys who had his all around game. At the all-star game alone, you had guys like miles, rice, randolph, ford, wallace, etc. who could basically do it all.
I think miles, athletically, is very close to garnett. I dont remember garnett having a great offensive game his 1st year in the nba. jump hooks and jumpers can be developed in the nba. Thus, im in the minority here, i think miles has as high a ceiling as garnett.

Drnuegebauer, do u really think miles will be around in the late 1st ?

I think it's a complete joke to compare Darius Miles and Kevin Garnett in high school. Kevin Garnett was the biggest high school stud in the last decade. The guy was like 3 steals shy from AVERAGING a quadruple double every night. Garnett was bombing 3's from outside. Dominating the paint down low. Racking up double digit assists every night. He did used to play against Elton Brand, Marcus Camby, Shareef Abdur Rahim, and etc etc, are those guys chump change. The high school talent hasn't exactly evolved to a higher level in the last 5 years. In fact, I think the last few high school classes have been rather below average. Garnett played on a nationally ranked team who had to face the toughest high school competition in the country. If you saw KG in the Nike Hoop Summit or McDonald's All American game, it was obvious you were seeing the most dominating high schooler that could do anything...I mean ANYTHING on the court.

Hehe...I don't expect Miles to be anything like Garnett...more along the lines of McGrady.
