I wish the Obama campaign had spent some time exposing McCain's friendship with this psychopath. At least he was never a member of ACORN.

    McCain on Liddy's radio show:

"I'm proud of you, I'm proud of your family." "It's always a pleasure for me to come on your program, Gordon, and congratulations on your continued success and adherence to the principles and philosophies that keep our nation great."

Liddy describing his plot to kill journalist Jack Anderson in Playboy:

PLAYBOY: …What did you finally decide on?

LIDDY: A simple if un-James Bondish method… we merely decided to make it a lethal mugging.

PLAYBOY: Who would have done the job?

LIDDY: It was initially decided to assign it to some of our Cuban-exile assets, but then Hunt began to worry that our principals would deem it too sensitive a matter to be entrusted to them. So I volunteered to do it myself.

    [...]

LIDDY: …We didn’t want to make it look like anything more than another Washington street-crime statistic, remember, so no sophisticated weaponry could be employed.

PLAYBOY: How would you have killed him?

LIDDY: Oh, I would have knifed him or broken his neck, probably. One of us would have died, no doubt about it. But, as I say, we never received the final green light.

PLAYBOY: Were you relieved or disappointed?

LIDDY: I was neither. I was acting on the instructions of my principal, and I was prepared to follow those instructions either way they went.

PLAYBOY: You really see nothing anomalous, much less frightening, about two aides to the President of the United States cold-bloodedly plotting to assassinate one of the country’s leading reporters?

LIDDY:I know it violates the sensibilities of the innocent and tender-minded, but in the real world, you sometimes have to employ extreme and extralegal methods to preserve the very system whose laws you’re violating.

Liddy giving advice on killing federal agents:

"If the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms insists upon a firefight, give them a firefight. Just remember, they're wearing flak jackets and you're better off shooting for the head."

The main stream liberal media didn't do anything with this because they are so sneaky that by, you know, not running with a damning story like this on McCain, but running retread ACORN hysteria, giving airplay to the Ayers attacks, etc, they could sneakily TRICK U.S. Americans into thinking they the very liberal media are actually not liberal! I'm onto them! Me and Rush.

    I have changed my tune.

It gets even better. Apparently, Liddy held a fundraiser for McCain-

In a March 9, 1998, article (retrieved from Nexis), The Washington Post's Al Kamen reported that Liddy hosted a fundraiser for McCain's 1998 Senate re-election campaign.

    Kamen wrote:

Here's one we wished we hadn't missed. "G. Gordon Liddy and family cordially invite you to a fundraiser reception" at their home in Scottsdale, Ariz., "in support of Sen. John McCain's 1998 re-election campaign."

So McCain (R), a bona fide American hero, is having G. Gordon Liddy, a bona fide American felon and, worse yet, talk show host, do a fund-raiser for him? What is this all about?

Liddy has a home there and "he called and said he wanted to invite some friends over," McCain said, "and I said okay. I was surprised when he made the offer. I hardly know him." As for the old conviction, McCain noted, "He's a successful talk show host."

The affair, which took place over the weekend, was $ 125 per person, but those who ponied up $ 250 a person got to go to the early "VIP reception." There you could have your picture taken with McCain and Liddy.

On behalf of all U.S. Americans, please, change it back. Change it back!

gifford, why are you bringing up 1998?

You do realize McCain was only 62 years old
at that time, right? What are we supposed to do,
dig back into his middle-age next?

You are trying this guilt by association routine; I'm
sure John McCain thought it was a different
Gordon Liddy hosting the fundraiser. It is not that
    uncommon a name.

If the dems wanted to play dirty like the repubs, they would have brought up Liddy. McCain being tied to the mastermind behind the Watergate burglary says enough in and of itself.

Luckily (or, I guess, unluckily) for McCain, they never had to do that, because they're not desperate.

I'm trying to figure out the context of that McCain quote. When he said he was "proud" of Liddy -- exactly what was he proud of?
