http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/13/washington/13cnd-cong.html?_r=1&hp&oref=slogin Somewhat disappointing. I'm hoping for a clarification from his campaign, but I don't see one on his website at the moment.
People will say this was a "no win" for McCain but he loses so much more by flip-flopping. Stuff like this and his reversal on the Bush tax cuts will haunt him in the Fall. Major choke job here.
Like any of this matters. Check out the weblink for the full episode of Cheney's Law...it's in another thread here on page 2 maybe. It's a Frontline episode. The Bush Admin does anything they want. McCain lead the fight against torture, played politics to get the bill passed, and after Bush signed it into law, the Admin on that same night sends out some kind of legal letter stating that the law is not applicable. They are a Kings...I don't agree with it, but am sure impressed with their audacity.
What are you waiting for clarification for and why in the world would you think he would vote any different? He was POW. He abhors torture. Duh.
I'm really surprised there hasn't been more enthusiasm for the republican front runner. All everyone (even conservatives) seem to be talking about is Obama.
The mere thought that any hippie liberal sissie on this board can criticize John McCain's opinions on torture are laughable. This guy knows more than you do on this topic. Sit down and shut up, sissies.
I'm really disappointed in McCain. His stance on torture was one area I agreed with him and one issue that a majority of independents and Democrats did too. He'll need to explain to a lot of voters why he voted against the ban while saying that he finds torture aberrant.
So is McCain a sissie for previously criticizing the exact attitude that this vote reflected? My head is about to explode.
Why don't you "sit down and shut up" and pay attention to the real issue: The issue is McCain flip-flopping, not so much his stance on waterboarding. If he had always maintained the same position, no big deal.
What is your problem man? I don't read too many of these threads and consider myself to be an independent who tries to stay educated and steer clear of political spin and crap, but man, your attitude is very childish and downright rude. Maybe I haven't read enough threads and maybe there are other culprits but the name calling is not appropriate. Maybe that's what D and D is for, because there is no way I would tolerate it in one of my basketball analysis threads. I have many friends in the armed forces (my best man going to Iraq in a few months) and they all have varying opinions and views on things, but there is mutual respect. It would be nice if you and everyone else here could conduct themselves in the same respectful manner that say a Marine Officer would. McCain is not the President yet, so it is not illegal to criticize him or just question his ideas, which is what we should do to pretty much all politicians. Anyhow, like I said earlier, it doesn't matter. McCain lead anti-torture legislation that Bush signed into law and on that very same night, a document was created that states that the President can disregard the law. http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/cheney/ Chapter 6, fast forward to 4:50 So I'm not going to criticize McCain here at least not until he gets a chance to explain his reasoning. There can be very legitimate reasons behind things that have the appearance of flip flopping. There should be no rush to judgment.
Does anyone else think McCain is going to look back at this moment in a year or so and deeply regret waffling on the one issue he seemed so strong in his convictions about?
