This is awesome. My $0.02: 1) How effective will Palin be at attracting female (Hillary) voters? 2) I can't wait to see her debate Biden.
I had just posted this in the VP Predictions thread, so I guess I'll put it here - I think it is a smart political move by McCain. She's very attractive and very conservative, as best I can tell from a quick look. Any women who were supporters of Hillary Clinton, however, are going to see her positions on the issues and run for the Democratic ticket. I think it will help add some excitement that McCain is sorely lacking and help some with conservatives who don't like McCain, as well as superficial 30-somethings. If it's her, a good pick for McCain, based on pretty superficial knowledge of her on my part. He needed to do something to draw attention to his ticket. Palin does that, I think, but will she hold up to closer scrutiny? And I don't think this will help sway Clinton supporters. Not after that great convention. It'll help in other ways, however.
Awesome sentence with perhaps unintended buckets of truth. Indeed, the GOP is "of Fox." This is a very interesting pick, and I'm so very happy it's not Plieberman. While I don't want to parrot DNC talking points, my first worry is having someone who, three years ago, was a city council person for a 8,000 person wilderness town, a heartbeat away from the presidency. It will indeed be interesting to see how they keep attacking Obama's experience, with Palin in tow. But I'll learn and listen and perhaps she can prove that she's ready for that incredible responsibility. We'll need to learn about her judgment, insight, and disposition. I'm also looking forward to hearing how moderate she may or may not be. I've met a lot of very likable, sensible, grounded people from Alaska. My second worry is a slight bias against politicians from incredibly sparsely populated regions. Cheney, (Wyoming) has a disturbing cowboy mindset that has dominated the last 8 years of foreign policy. But maybe that has nothing to do with his whereabouts.
Ditto, word for word. I'll add that I'm concerned how she handles the intense scrutiny and spotlight since she's never been on a big stage before.
(chants in convention type voice) More weslinder! More weslinder! Seriously, I would like to read your thoughts on her.
Looks like McCain picked a cougar. : ) Smart move on his part as Pawlenty and Ridge were both yawners. Good splash for the GOP, as she'll help pick up the disgruntled Hillary supporters as well as bringing out the female vote. She is going to get slaughtered by Biden in the VP debates, but those don't carry a lot of weight anyway. On a side note, no matter who wins the election, we'll have either a black president or a female VP. That is groundbreaking and a huge step forward.
This is wonderful news - Harriet Miers is smiling. McCain, who is a heartbeat away from kicking it, picked a rookie who makes Obama look like a grizzled veteran.
No. She deserves her own thread now that it is official. We can't just treat the Republican party like an afterthought...
Not really sure how this helps McCain at all. Don't know anything about her, but B-bob is not alone in being unsure about someone who hasn't had much experience. This is like the Obama experience issue on steroids and can't help McCain IMO. It'll now make what could have been a consistent message for McCain - experience - a confusing mess. OTOH - a young black man and an old white dude vs an old white dude and a young woman. That's not too bad!
So, like McCain, she's willing to fight Republicans and go against the party line. However, she looks to be far right socially, thus pleasing the Religious Right. Plus, she adds youth and she's a female. The only problem I see is experience, which Obama can't really go after her for. Looks to be a pretty solid pick for McCain.
