This is from a NY Times story, about his 2000 campaign. Unless more comes out about this, and they can show that he did favors for the lobbyist then I don't think this story has all that much teeth. It is odd that she was attending events with him, and how many of her clients had business before committees that he was seated on. But so far I haven't seen any real proof of wrong doing. The rest of the story is at the link. It is something to keep an eye on, but as of right now, it isn't something earth shattering.
Sorry blade Libpigs just can't do feigned outrage snark like the other side. Now how McCain is financing his campaign is another thing all together.
You are right. I should have made some sort of dramatic statement about McCain being a fraud and the GOP scandals continuing in 2008.
Apparently they didn't have enough supporting witnesses and statements to run it before. Even as recently as this past December they were trying to get follow up comments from McCain, but he wouldn't discuss it, so it might be that they were scouring the environs looking for more information. Maybe since they endorsed McCain they wanted to do him a favor and not release this back when the race was still open to other candidates. But that doesn't seem all that likely. It could also be that someone else was going to release it, and they didn't want to get beat to the story.
The NY Times wanted to wait for him to all but secure the nomination. Then the smear campaign could begin.
At least McCain has good taste in woman which is more than I can say for Bill. However no one can outdo Kennedy.
http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5iG-8I87S5w4QP8CPIrx2wh8irqmgD8UUG0M80 McCain denies it and calls it a smear campaign.
Didn't the NYT endorsed McCain a month ago. Looks like they turned on him just as we thought they would. Sure didn't take long.
If it is indeed just a case of the NYT going after McCain. There is also the possibility that McCain acted improperly in giving special access and consideration to the lobbyist.
Like you said, there isn't much to this story yet, but the NYT couldn't wait to publish this. I am no fan of McCain, but whomever thought liberal media likes McCain because NYT and Boston Globe endorsed him is fooling themselves.
because endorsing someone means you will never ever ever write anything bad about them even though you're a newspaper. love the logic by the wing nuts
The evil right wing conspiracy theorist in me believes this is an effort to rally the conservative party base for McCain. Nothing stirs the GOP to action more than reading the lies of the NYT... Obama meanwhile has a nice little schitstorm brewing behind the scenes himself... details later this week BLESSED DAY TO YOU
They endorsed McCain because he's the most left-wing of all the GOP candidates. They're smearing him now because they're in the tank for Obama. Thankfully the Times' left-wing bias is obvious to most conservatives and Republicans these days, so I doubt this will do anything to derail McCain's campaign. If anything, it'll solidify his support among conservatives.
