    Team McCain and the Trooper

Nominee's ally moves to curb probe of Palin

Key Alaska allies of John McCain are trying to derail a politically charged investigation into Gov. Sarah Palin's firing of her public safety commissioner in order to prevent a so-called "October surprise" that would produce embarrassing information about the vice presidential candidate on the eve of the election.

In a move endorsed by the McCain campaign Friday, John Coghill, the GOP chairman of the state House Rules Committee, wrote a letter seeking a meeting of Alaska's bipartisan Legislative Council in order to remove the Democratic state senator in charge of the so-called "troopergate" investigation.

McCain is going to involve himself with this and possibly bring obstruction charges against himself?

    that's ballsey

Maybe Palin is fighting corruption by going undercover as a corrupt politician. Brilliant.

Yes, and why does she need to learn about DC politics? It seems like she already has the idea down by trying to use her power to hid corruption.

As far as I can tell she doesn't. The only bad things about this are the lies after the firing.

Well, add this to that list, I suppose. :/

Gotta love it. The cover-up always ends up being a bigger crime than the initial charge. She'd better watch it, or they're going to nail her with obstruction of justice.

    via TPM --

"This week, seven key witnesses informed Mr. Branchflower through their attorneys that they would not provide depositions. Their depositions, which had been agreed to and scheduled earlier with Mr. Branchflower, were cancelled within the last 72 hours."

So isn't there anyone with investigatory power, or even just lawyerly or reportorial skills, who could inquire into exactly how all these witnesses to "troopergate" happened to obtain lawyers and then all follow the exact same tactic in the same 72 hours? Who are their lawyers; who is paying their lawyers? And many other questions that follow.

    http://tpmcafe.talkingpointsmemo.com/2008/09/06/lawyers_troopergate_and_questi/

So three days ago 7 people had agreed to testify in the investigation. Within these 72 hours they all layered up (courtesy of the McCain campaign no doubt) and are now refusing to testify.

Way to restore that integrity to the WH Ms Palin.

i'm sorry, why haven't anyone in the media confronted her about her hypocrisy? her main claim to this election is that she's a reformer. i dont' see at all how she's a reformer with all these news about her.

can't wait until her first interview and people ask her about this. campbell brown anyone?

What a non-issue! Rezko is more of an issue, and that's a non-issue.

The Alaskan Ethics Commission moved up the hearings so they wouldn't conflict with the election. Nothing is being swept under the rug.

This is so partisan! No one has mentioned that the brother-in-law tasered his 10-year-old stepson and beat up his wife who fears for her life -- while her spouse carries a pistol.

If I were in her place and that commissioner wouldn't fire or suspend a law enforcement officer with those kind of anger issues, I'd do the same thing. If this happened in Houston, there would be liberals all over the place screaming for their heads. However, since it's a Republican opponent, it's okay.

Possibly because the facts will exonerate her? The media couldn't have that. It's better not to let facts get in the way of a good story.

rezko helped obama buy him HIS FIRST HOUSE. most people when they buy their first home, they are willing to get any kind of deal possible. hell, at least obama is willing to TALK ABOUT IT PUBLICLY as he will v. bill o'reilly and keith olbermann next week.

he has released all the files associated with ayers to the public. so republicans can have a go at them if they want.

the fact of the matter is if she has nothing to hide, COME OUT TO THE PUBLIC YOURSELF and denouce those rumors. come out and address this rumor, the bridge to nowhere, the earmarks, the jet, the experience...

again, no one is saying she was wrong in trying to get the brother-in-law fired. that's their PERSONAL problem. why bring the commissioner into it to try to get him fired? solve your family problems (as the mccain camp wants to keep it personal) PERSONALLY within the family. sue the brother or do whatever. the fact that she "might" have use her power to get the commissioner to do that is wrong. BIG DIFFERENCE.

With whom? MNNBC? ABC? The New York Times? If I were in her place, I'd avoid any reporter who is obviously biased. Let the Alaskan Commission sort out the facts.

look thumbs, people make mistakes and that's fine if you own up to it or at least willing to talk about it publicly, as obama has come out personally to address the reverent, ayers, rezko and so on.

the fact of the matter is palin is NOT WILLING to come out and say ANYTHING. silence speaks louder than words.
