Just checked out ESPN's recruiting/ranking chart. Looks like Brown is doing just fine... notice the improvement as "his" classes age. http://espn.go.com/ncf/s/2002/0205/1323070.html
Good post. Mack's breakdown per Rivals: 1998 - #1 1999 - #6 2000 - #6 2001 - #1? UT finished top 5 last year, so I don't think you can say he's underachieved. Macovic left some talent, but the 2002 edition of the Horns may the most talented. Mack has certainly lost some games he should have won though. But, I think you can say that about every coach.
Maybe Mack Brown should not try to block a punt down by 6 points with over 4 minutes to go in a game that has national title implications. It was the 3rd dumbest coaching move I have ever seen. Number 1 was Gary Barnett trying a fake punt up 18 points late in the 3rd quarter. Number 2 was Jerry Glanville trying that stupid lateral play to Mike Rozier in the Denver playoff game. Number 3 is Mack calling for a block punt, when Major Applehite has the hot hand and over 4 minutes left only down 6. Sometimes coaches should just let the players play. DaDakota
