If Ron starts, then Hayes maybe a good choice to be starting pf. It will give Ron more time to touch ball. Scolandry as front backup can give anybody big trouble. Hayes + Yao is pretty efficient in JVG's time.
I don't think he should start unless we play a top notch PF. And even when that happens how are you gonna divide all the minutes for the bench...Battier, Barry, Brooks, Scola, Landry, and maybe Dorsey then Head.
I think it's a good idea. So they both could score big off the bench while Battier focuses on the defense. Brent shoots 3
Doubtful. You have to look at what the spacing would be like and all Hayes would do is clog the lane and allow his man to help defend on Yao. We need a shooting PF with Yao to keep defenses honest.
I think if it is situational. Maybe. But, Scola should start most games, unless it is certain matchup problem we face.
That's very unlikely, and probably not a good idea. Scola and Landry should get the lion share of the minutes at PF and backup C, in my opinion. We should use Hayes when a defensive unit is needed or if there's an injury to one of the other front-court players, but probably not on a regular, day-to-day basis.
I am Hayes biggest fan. Well... 2nd biggest fan here. I have always thought he should start. Except now. Especially if Artest is starting. You have to have a PF who can extend the defense so Artest can have more low post opportunities. Landry and Scola can do that. Hayes can't. I am all for Hayes being out there in the crunch of the 4th qtr though. He is a top 15 defender.
I agree as we can see Artest really isn't doing much on the block because there's no space for him to with Hayes, Yao, and Wafer on the floor. There's no really decent shooter in that bunch.
No....i prefer Landry....because if you start Hayes, his man is going to leave him and double team our superstars..not a good idea. With Landry, not only you can't leave him open, you have to be aware of his ability to drive and dunk at WILL!!! Chuck can't drive, Scola are not athletic to drive. Scola can't dunk as quick as Landry and Chuck only do layup and get blocked easily.
A lot of people thought Artest coming to Houston would spell the end of Hayes as a regular rotation player but I believe the contrary. Ron is a hell of a scorer and the more offense you add to this team the more Chuck's inability to score becomes a non-factor. If you're rolling with a Rafer, Tmac, Artest, Yao squad out there then Hayes is arguably the best guy to have out there with them at PF. I'm not saying he is a starter by any means but I can see the above mentioned squad becoming the most effective combination.
Even I don't think Chuck is likely to start. He started tonight so that adeleman could see him with Ron and Yao at the same time. It's a "Let's see how this team starts together" tool, not a predict the starters tool. Chuck did well so far in his minutes today but let's not jump to too many conclusions eh? and I think I would qualify as the biggest Chucky fan
Teams will double team Yao again. Hayes is overated in this forum. He will be riding the pine in any other team.
I don't know that I'd call him overrated. Seems to me everyone understands his limitations. I think Chuck still has something to offer this team, but not as a starter, and not even with regular minutes.
I love having the Hayes on the roster but he's not a starter. He's a situational player. He may get 20 minutes one night and not get off the bench the next. It depends on matchups. Scola looked helpless out there tonight against the youth and speed of OKC. Landry should get the bulk of the minutes at PF against this team in the regular season. Artest didn't do much, either. Not that it matters.
You're right. Exact same point though. Von Wafer started tonight. Strawberry played a lot of minutes. I think you get the picture.
