I haven't done one of these in a while. First off: The stupid new McDonalds Southern fried chicken sandwich is a blatant rip off of Chick-Fil-A, and it sucks.

OK, onto the post info. As most people know, I'm a foodie. I love going places and seeing if they live up to the hype. I can honestly say this new place does, and it is one of the most original new concepts that Houston has seen in a while.

Basically, it is a wine bar that serves food. But the food is awesome, and unique. (BTW, it's on Washington & Shepherd in the Heights.)

The place serves hot dogs. $14 hot dogs! I know what you're thinking. Who in the hell would pay $14 for a hot dog?!? You will. The thing is enough to feed two. It comes with a grass-fed beef weiner, venison chili, cojita cheese, fried onions, and homemade jalepenos. It is served on a pound of fries, which is why this can easily serve two.

    Here's a picture of it:

Or how about a Osso Buco Cheesesteak sandwich? Made with veal shank, roasted shiitake, oyster and porcini mushrooms and black truffle cheese in an artisan baguette, is topped with gremolata and lemon-infused Portuguese extra-virgin olive oil.

    Picture of it:

They also have Kobe beef hamburgers, Fried Chicken and waffles, Macaroni & cheese served in a white truffle cream sauce, mussels, chili cheese fries with fried egg, etc. I could go on and on, but the fact is, the food isn't just interesting. It is damn good, too.

Max's also has an extensive wine list that will cater to the biggest wine snob.

All-in-all, the place is a tad small, but definitely worth checking out. Plan on spending 20-25 bucks when going, and that can be halved if you can find someone willing to split a meal.

Seriously, this place needs to be tried out. A really neat menu, with things even the biggest foodie hasn't tried yet.

    Moinge!

yeah, I read Walsh's recent article about that place. Man, I'd have to do some stomach exercises before going there...like working out on a few normal hotdogs first, then moving up to the Kahn's deli ones, then maybe...just maybe...trying out a Max's one.

does Catalan have a happy hour.

I've been to Max's a few times, but only to drink. I've never eaten there. One of my best friends lives within walking distance of the place. Nice eye candy in there as well.

Washington Ave. is turning into the new Midtown.

I'm not sure. I have never been there that early. I normally go on a Friday or Saturday night. Make sure you make reservations a few days in advance though.

I haven't known any foodies who like fast food as much as you do.

We have been meaning to try Max's but have not gotten around to it. By the way, the area is not the Heights...more like the West End (although these days they seem to just call it the Washington area).

I'm a total fast food junkie, but I also like nice places to eat, and I also cook.

It just seems I'm the only one who likes to talk about my fast food obsession. Plus, I refuse to eat out if I'm by myself, nor will I cook anything extravagant. Seriously, for last Saturday night's dinner, I spent $95 on food for the evening. I made fajita enchiladas and cheese enchiladas, along with some appetizers, and I bought a cake.

Yesterday, I bought food for my place: I spent $20 on hot dogs, frito pie, burritos and spaghetti.

Very naive for you to judge. I also have made moussaka, chimichangas, ricotta stuffed squid, carpetbagger steaks, steak au poivre, and that's just off the top of my head. I wanted to do goat-cheese enchiladas last week, but too many people didn't like goat cheese.
