If you can magically place 93-94 Max and Kenny into today's Rockets. Im positive we would have beaten the Lakers. We would have more assists, more 3 pointers made and less turnovers.

Max had to D-up Michael Jordan in his prime, so Kobe would an easier chore.

No air balls in gametime Steve.

i actually think cuttino compares quite favorably to maxwell. cuttino does about as good a job on kobe as can be expected.

comparing kenny with steve is unfair. they're asked to do two entirely different things.

but if you're just saying, who would be a better point guard in a JVG system with a Yao-centric offense...I agree with you that Kenny would be a better choice.

We probably would've been swept. Kenny Smith, as much as I love him, was hardly the guy you wanted looking to create his own shot.

But with just Maxwell over Mobley? That would be a major upgrade. We'd have a chance to take to the Lakers to seven games, considering how much we missed Cat's 3pt shooting in the playoffs.

Steve and Mobley weren't the problems against the Lakers. You should look at Kenny's assists numbers if you think that would have been a difference.

yeah...that was not an assist-heavy team at all. they finished nearly last in the league in assists, if i remember right. largely because everything went through the post. not a motion offense...or even a pick-and-roll offense.

What your not giving Kenny credit for would be his getting the ball into the post. He'd be by far the best passer we have right now in making sure Yao got the ball, when and where he wanted it. A lost art on this current team.

i seem to remember that horry was the one dropping the ball in to hakeem the most...am i wrong???? kenny brought it up..swung it to the wing where either max or horry would drop it in. is that right??

not taking anything away from kenny....i loved kenny!

Vernon would mentally break steve down with good d and verbal abuse. Steve would be left sulking in a corner. Anybody that can get into Jordan's head can pop Steve's head.

It is really unfair of you (and simply uncalled for) to bring up the sad fact that both of those guys did some gay p*rn shortly after retiring. It's understandable that they would miss the glamour and attention of their NBA lives.

Before they won the championships, I remember sports talk guys nominating Kenny and Mad Max as the worst starting backcourt in the league. A PG who's one asset was shooting and a shooting guard who couldn't. Fond memories, and Olajuwon's greatness, have made those 2 look much better than they were.

I remember it in Houston before that, on 740. In fact, I think Rich and Charlie might have had a show on 740 back then.

Missed the p*rn. Was he ballsier there than balling on the hardcourt?

I doubt we would have won, but quite possibly we would have had great chemistry. Chemistry was the key to the Rockets back then. Everyone knew their roles and the whole team was a synchronized unit.

Really --- if we could trade Kelvin Cato for a young Otis Thorpe

    That's what this team needs.

The 94' team wouldn't win the championship if they played today.
Hakeem was a beast, but the 1-on-1 offense could't beat
the zone. Remember Seatle gave us a lot of trouble with their
semi-zone, then imagine the Zone today.
