Mavs sign Nowitzki to three-year, $60M extension

Looking to build on a 60-win season that ended two games shy of an NBA Championship, the Dallas Mavericks signed All-Star forward Dirk Nowitzki to a contract extension, the team announced Tuesday.

While the team did not disclose terms of the deal, ESPN.com's Marc Stein reports that it is a three-year extension worth just under $60 million.

"We are glad to keep Dirk in the Mavericks family for many more years," Mavs owner Mark Cuban said. "His contribution to our success on and off the court has been immeasurable."

Last season, Nowitzki averaged a career-high 26.6 points per game, along with 9.0 rebounds and 2.8 assists. He also established career highs in field goal percentage (48.0), 3-point percentage (40.6) and free throw percentage (90.1).

Nowitzki finished third in MVP voting and was named to the All-NBA First Team for the second straight season. He has also been selected to a Mavericks-record five straight All-Star Games

sorry forgot to add my blurb on the topic.

I for one, am happy for Nowitzki. I'm a fan of him and anyone who hates him caus he's a maverick or whatever, has to realise the guys ability.

and admit it, when he's not shooting the Rocks down with 53 points - he's a pretty fun player to watch.

No doubt that guy is a star, he has great ability from the outside to hit 3 after 3, drive to the baskeft, post-up..

But you can't deny that dude knows how to Flop and if there was category for it he would be in the top 3 :D

Flopping is a part of the game now and Dirk excels at it :(

He deserves it. Dirk took his game up to another level this season and playoffs. He clearly isn't up to Wade's level of clutchness and guts but Dirk is a franchise player the Mavs better keep. Maybe this year he takes them over the top.

See, I dont think flopping is a part of the game. I think beating your man to his spot is a part of the game.

But you don't have to act like a little girl being hit by Mario Williams.

That is the main reason we hated the Jazz, it the main reason I hate Manu G. and the main reason for disliking Dirk.

    :D

No one likes a whiner or a cheater. Sure he can score, but who likes someone complaining every second even when he is CLEARLY in the wrong.

Now all the Mavs have to do is find a closer and they'll have a legit shot.

He's a great player, but I think he's still juuuuuust outside of the circle of elite players. He's undoubtedly talented enough, but he's the biggest flopping perennial all-star since Karl Malone, who I still despise for that reason, among others. But at least Malone would hit a shot down the strech every now and then. Dirk has to step it up in clutch situations and man up instead of flailing wildly when hard late game defense is applied.

to all the haters on this thread, put Nowitzki in a Rocket uniform and you love him, right? flopping or not.

I appreciate your loyalty to the team though.

That pretty much guarantees Dirk a knee or ankle injury that causes him to miss over 50 games next year.

Don Nelson really scored big signing this guy. I would love to see him in a Rockets uniform. He must be a pretty nice guy though in real life. I heard he is a good tipper in restaurants, and a friend of mine saw him tip an older rental car parking guy $100.00 in Chicago for bringing his car to him in rrally cold snowy weather.

Dirk has improved his defensive game and is very consistent.

i love dirk and his game. the only problems i have with his game is that he is still next to worthless with his back to the basket and in the paint. Yes, he has that slow-turning, fade-a-way but for him to have legitimate move with his back to the basket (spin move, baby hooks, drop step, etc). He has to be able to score on smaller guys in the post to go to the next level

as for his flopping. i dont know if he does it on purpose, i just think that whatever he does looks awkward and clumsy. Whenever he gets any contact it just makes it look even more clumsy and then he falls like a house of cards. Which is fine. The problem is that refs call fouls when usually he just falls due to his own clumsyness
