If we eventually have multiple max players on the roster, we are going to need other players on rookie contracts. Sort of like OKC is doing gathering picks to put around their max players. What exactly would the Mavs want if they can't take back salary? A future draft pick?
I don't think so in a weak draft. I would do it on draft day to get Shabazz Muhammed who might fall but has promise I think he would be a good 6th man off the bench especially when harden takes over PG duties
The latter will probably come true (given that Dallas is 4th in the Howard sweepstakes in a weak free agent class). Therefore, the former will also come true (unless the pick is a bust).
Buy the pick. Morey can find a tradeable piece someone would covet to package with Asik or Lin if we signed Howard or Paul respectively ala Jeremy Lamb
Buying the pick is an interesting idea, especially if Dallas doesn't want to take any salary back. Too bad we already spent $1 million of our $3.1 million allotment to purchase picks on the T-Rob trade. I wonder how much Cuban could get for 13th pick.
Mason Plumlee&Kelly Olynyk are both PF's that are most likely going to be available then... Don't think any of them are all star caliber players though..
Two of these three should be available at 13: Plumlee, Olynyk and Schroeder. They will be solid backups for years to come.
Someone please tell Mark Cuban he has no chance at dwight howard. Why in god's name would he go from a lakers team that made the playoffs to a Mavs team that imploded and fizzled out. Unless Mark has a masterplan where he forces morey to trade Harden to the Mavs by gunpoint i don't see dwight going there. I don't think dwight likes the idea of receiving assists and scoring help from the likes of darren collison, vince carter, and shawn marion. Lets see would i rather play with this. Spoiler or this... Spoiler
I hope we get it and draft Glen Rice Jr. He's excelled at a level higher than the NCAA. He's pretty good at everything and is big enough to backup both James and Chandler. I believe he'll go higher than what most mocks have him. Chad Ford has him at 15 I believe.
Cuban is a wise man. I'm sure he has tricks up his sleeve to pull Dwight Howard. Matter fact, DH12 may not even be his target... maybe a decoy in attempt to lure Paul or smith. Anyway, I admire his confidence to take risks and go for something even he isn't 100% sure he'll get. He risks a 13th overall pick for potential cash and/or 1st/2nd future pick(s) for a chance at Dwight Howard sweepstakes. Props to cuban
This is bad news for Morey and will only lower the trade value of the likes of Robinson. More competition in the prospects salary dumper market.
Ehh! I say just keep the pick. 9/10 the player won't be a star but saving the cap space does 0 good since they won't get Dwight or CP3.
