Mavericks turn down Howard for Artest

Howard is overrated. I think this is bold decision. Do you?

If he was overrated, wouldn't it be a BOLD decision to trade him for Artest?

If you ask me, I would rather keep Howard. Both equally talented, plus Howard has more years on him than Artest.

I think Dallas could be the number 1 team in the West with Artest

    Howard isn't that good.

You guys are as crazy as Artest! Howard's value is so high. Much much higher than Artest's. Does Carlisle have a history w Artest? I am not sure if their careers met in Indiana. He probably knows best if so. Howard plays both ends, can score in a variety of ways, deadlier than Monta Ellis inside the 3pt land IMO.

You should rename this thread "Mavs say no to being relevant this season"

Howard is a decent player but he is a notch or two below Artest. He is less versatile, does not "lock down" people like Artest can and is not as good a scorer. Besides, what has Dallas done with Howard in the lineup? A choke job in the Finals and a progressively worse showing in the playoffs each year afterward.

Artest played for Carlisle in Indiana with a considerable amount of success. His shooting percentage was high (I've heard around 61% or at least in the 50's) but I'm not sure of the real figure. This was primarily due to the fact that Ron took high percentage shots on offense and continued to play well on the defensive end. Artest did however criticize Carlisle's offense for being slow.

Artest has never shot 50% in his career. In his full seasons with Indiana, he shot 41%, 42%, and 42%. He only played 7 games one year and shot 49%. He played 16 games another year and shot 46%.

Josh Howard has higher shooting percentages than Artest from the field, from 3pt line, and free throws.

What have they done with Dirk in the lineup? Dirk is the problem. He is slow to start, doesn't command the ball, doesn't impact the game on the low blocks at either end. Its Dirk holding them back.

Artest is uggggly offense. He scores off broken plays, iso, ugly ugly post work, jack ups, and strength. He brings the collective offensive rhythm of his teams down when he touches the ball.

Thank you for correcting me.My purpose was not to compare Josh Howard with him. I recall him having a good season with Carlisle. Please correct me if I'm wrong here, was Artest on the Pacers under Carlisle when they won 61 ? games in a regular season?

Sorry,I made a mistake about it. I got confused with the 61-21 record that the Pacers had in 03-04. Ron was on that team and was praised for his discipline under Carlisle that year. I never thought that Dallas would trade Josh Howard for him but I can understand their interest in him if they could trade Stackhouse and Bass in exchange.

I'm not a big fan of Artest's skill level,Ziggy's breakdown of his game is very accurate IMO.
I'll try to be more careful next time.

Artest is one of my favorite players in the league but for the people that think this trade would of made Dallas Title Contenders you're crazy.

Some serious overrating of Artest and underrating of Howard going on in this thread.
