An all Texan Western Conference Finals would be awesome! I wouldn't even care who won, really. I hadn't considered it before because I wanted Sacramento to beat Dallas and thought they would (because Sacramento would be better for beating LA if they got by the Spurs; but now that they lost Webber, I don't know if they would be, even). Now, it looks somewhat likely.

I tend to prefer the Spurs because I like the city of San Antonio better than Dallas. But, it'd be fun for the Mavs to win because it'd create a whole little circus and all the sports pundits would talk about a new era of the high-powered offense and whatnot -- and then wonder what happened when Dallas fails to repeat.

First, you should root for the Rockets. That being out of the picture, the second thing you should do is to root against the Lakers. The rest is really not that important.

When the Lakers lose, I'll hope either the Kings or the Mavs win because they are entertaining basketball.

I disagree I dont want to see dallas or san Antonio win for several reasons

    1. Why would I want to see ur rivals win
    2. LAL and sacremento last year was the most entertaining and hard fought series in a long time and I want to see if Sacrmento without webber can still use last year as motivation to upset the 3 time defending champions
    3. I want to see if the Lakers can become the first team since the old celtics with russell to win 4 straight championships

You know if Dallas went to the finals and play lets say, New Jersey it migh not be a walk in the park. Both teams don't have any big men so anything could go. Dallas tends to choke as well.

Man that would be somthing a western conference team losing to an eastern conference. Now would'nt that make Mark Cuban go bonkers. They would be laughed at right out of the building similar to what happend to the USA basketball team at the World Championship.

no way in a million years dallas loses 4 games to new jersey.

dallas swept new jersey this year and i believe last year as well.

new jersey is the watered down leastern conference version of dallas, except well they stink.

All WC teams are our rivals. What so special about Texan teams?

Doesn't mean other matchups can't be entertaining. The Kings-Mavs series is pretty entertaining. A Mavs-Nets series will be entertaining too. A Lakers/Spurs vs. any Eastern team will be UGLY.

No, I dont' want to see it. The sooner the Lakers die the better. :p

If the Mavericks win it all.
Texas will be the only state to have THREE DIFFERENT TEAMS
    with NBA CHAMPIONSHIPS
[I don't think Golden State or the Kings have one]

Just wondering - are you from Texas?

I think it has to do with the mentality of each city. There's definitely negative vibes between Houston and Dallas... and S.A. thinks it's the biggest because of the Riverwalk.

Anyway - there's also some NBA history involved:
late 80's - Mavs / Rocks playoffs (I know, it was too long ago)
early 90's - Spurs / Rocks - playoffs, Robinson vs. Hakeem for post dominance, etc.

So, I'd disagree with the fact that all WC teams being our rivals. They're our opponents, but a "rival" is something different.

At the same time, I'd say other rivals *definitely* include: Utah, Seattle, Lakers, Knicks. In fact, compared to these guys, I'd put SA and Dallas lower on the list, but that is my personal opinion and people always disagree on this point.

The Mavs were bought? HUH? All their star playes were either drafted by the Mavs or they were traded for. All of the Mavs free agent signing have been busts (Eshmeyer, Bradley, etc). Just because Cuban is a wealthy man doesn't mean that he's the Steinbrenner of basketball. Hell, it's practically impossible to do what Steinbrenner does in the NBA because of the salary cap.

Anywho, I'm rooting for the Mavs to win it all since I live in Dallas and have had a chance to watch them fairly closely for the past couple of years. They're my second favorite team behind the Rockets, and I would love to see them kick the Spurs (or Lakers) ass.

First things first, though. They still have to win game six or seven...

I would have to root for the Spurs. Many fans think their title is illegitimate due to the strike shortened season that year. Another championship this year would make that moot.

Cuban has spent money pretty freely, but the main pieces were in Dallad prior to Cuban's arrival. Nash, Nowitski and Finley had been playing in Dallas before Cuban bought the team in January of 2000. Granted, players like Van Exel would not be there if Cuban didnt spend for them...but you could argue that Cuban didnt need to spend a penny to build around their big three.

That said, I'd like to see the Spurs take the championship.

My loyalty goes to Texas first, then Houston. While I would rather have the Rockets take their umpteenth championship before letting the Spurs or Mavs have one, I am happy and proud to see them win once the Rockets are out of it. It beats the hell out watching California get anything.

Admittedly I don't know what I;m talking about but I had to stir the pot, I couldn't just say "the Spurs are boring...." also, a guy i know is a bigtime Mavs bandwagoneer, as is becoming pretty popular, and i want a reason to hate them, despite the fact that they are pretty entertaining, and i realy lick (doh! "like" not "lick") Nick, Najera y Nowitzker

Yep. I spent 16 years in Texas, 5 in Houston, 11 in Dallas. When I was in Dallas, I hated all the Dallas teams, especially the Cowboys. I don't hate the Mavs now (still hate the Cowboys as long as Jerry Jones is the owner).

I understand the rivalry thing. But to me, what matters is which teams present the biggest threat to the Rockets. Right now, it's the bubble teams of the WC playoffs chase: Suns, Seattle, GS, Jazz, Blazers, Wolves. When we become a title contender, then we'll worry about the Mavs, Spurs, and the Kings.

The Lakers are another matter. . . hate them always. . .

If the Mavs or Spurs come out of the West and Sixers can come out of the East it will be really interesting to see Iverson because I think he can lead the Sixers over the Mavs or Spurs. Imho the Nets also have a good chance. I like this years playoffs. The title is for anybodys taking.
