Mavs will hit court sporting new look By Art Garcia Star-Telegram Staff Writer It's only fitting for the new-look Mavericks to unveil new uniforms for tonight's opener against the Los Angeles Lakers. The predominantly dark silver duds are debuting on one of the NBA's grandest stages (the Staples Center), and before a national television audience. After introducing new uniforms for the 2001-02 season -- also the team's first year at American Airlines Center -- the Mavs waited the NBA-mandated two years before introducing an alternate wardrobe. This will be the first time the Mavericks use three uniforms in the same season. "The idea of the second road uniform is to add a slight edge to our current look," Mavericks owner Mark Cuban said. "I went through my personal color inventory and put together a gaggle of tones and shades that I thought best reflected the attitude of the Mavericks. It wasn't easy, and I agonized over the choices. "But as is our way, I got to the final look by putting an alternative spin on the silver element in our current color palette, giving it a fashionable, less traditional feel." In addition to the new silver color, the new road uniform reads "Mavericks" across the front, a departure from the "Dallas" on the current home and road uniforms. The star on the back of the jersey below the neckline remains consistent, but the team's secondary logo featuring an "M" and a basketball over a shield is featured on each side of the shorts. The Mavs played their inaugural 1980-81 season wearing the look the team would keep for 21 years. Those uniforms, featuring former owner Don Carter's original white cowboy hat logo, saw very little change, with the exception of minor script alterations, and road uniforms alternating between blue and green. Cuban isn't sure how often the new uniform will be worn during the season. It's not yet available for purchase, but can be pre-ordered at mavgear.com http://dallas-mavs.com/forums/messageview.cfm?catid=2&threadid=13055
One thing I've learned from all the Rocket's uni hype: It's real hard to reproduce an accurate depiction of a a uniform on the internet. The colors, shades and fabric finishes just don't come through.
I remember thinking that a silver alternate jersey would be cool for us. Not no more. That 2nd pic looks like a silver pile of sh*t. If we get an alternate 2 years from now, I hope it's black or blue.
If we ever get an alternate road jersey I hope its black, that would look pretty good IMO. Black and red with a little silver. bamaslammer, whos football jerseys are silver?
They're pretty good. Not as good as the primary uniforms. They're still better than ours. I'm kind of disappointed with our unis. Red is a good color and should always be our primary color, but I think our home unis could be a different color. I hate the Lakers, but maybe we could come up with a gold/yellow uni like theirs that works.
