If I were the Nuggets' owner, i would seriously considering hiring JVG as coach. They could be very dangerous if they can combine all that fire power with a bit of displine on defense.
The opportunity to creep in and make the Playoffs is there.............but they don't seem interested in doing what it takes.
If Denver played an ounce of defense, they'd be championship contenders. Good game though. I think Denver is just toying with Dallas, so it's gonna be interesting to see the second half.
I don't know if JVG would work there, JVG has pretty strict practices and alot of basketball studying and I doubt AI or Carmello or even KMart could learn the system. Just a bunch of skilled dumb players.
Does the Front Office realize what they need to fix during the Offseason and will they be able to do it?
This third quarter perfectly demonstrates the strengths of the Nuggets. They are NOT a good offensive team. They depend on a frenetic, gambling defense to initiate their transition offense. When Barkley said at half time that the Nuggets would be alright if they could just play half-court offense all game, he was precisely wrong (big surprise). Their half-court offense blows.
I read an astounding stat the other day that indicated that per possession Denver had one of the better defenses in the NBA. It surprised me, but they do have a lot of length and play the passing lanes like crazy. I think the Nuggets have a chemistry problem...they need players who are willing to sacrifice some of their game for the good of the team.
It's been discussed before and will be again in the annual Nuggets offseason thread. Right now, nobody knows. It will probably start with George Karl and we will see where it ends. I think Karl is a big part of the problem. The guy has a solid basketball mind and knows his stuff, but the players don't respond to him. Nuggets4 made a good point in an earlier thread that probably no coach could take the current roster very far.
Thank you. It gets tiring when Francis 4 Prez, AP3, Kelly and I are the only ones that point that out. Eventually, people will listen. This is my biggest fear. If we miss the playoffs, $10 says that the front office comes out and says "Well, any other year and we make the playoffs. After all, we're the best team to miss the playoffs ever. With another year of seasoning, we're set!" And then I will drink heavily. I stand by this point. If they played every minute like they did the third quarter....
