This is the way the game is meant to be played, teams running up and down the court, getting GREAT looks in early offensive sets. Hammer dunks, alley oops, no look passes, 3 pointers raining down, back screens and cuts....ah man...beautiful. I hope the Rocks are watching this... The Mavs have moved up to my 2nd favorite team and the Kings are now 3rd. What fun !!! DaDakota
best game of the season. all i can say is wow. and the noise level of the arco crowd just made it all the better to watch. its weird it only ended up 110-102. seemed like it was WAY higher scoring than any normal game. anyway, if only every team in the league had those offensive weapons it would be awesome to watch. to bad we only get it for one round. please go 7 and then kick the lakers ass whoever wins.
There were TONS of fundamentals...breaking down the defense and passing to the open man..that is as fundamental as it gets. Fundamentals is really just about doing the RIGHT thing, and whether it is behind the back or a 2 handed bounce pass if it is the RIGHT thing to do, it can be considered fundamental. I love watching these guys play, they play ball the way it is meant to be played. DaDakota
Up tempo BBall is a joy to watch. This is a great series. Sadly, I doubt if any Rockets take heart. Playing against the Mavs and Kings 8 times during the season, they already had "front row seats".
All comes down to talent. You can play good ball when you have good players on the floor at all times. Both teams are putting combinations on the floor where all 5 players actually have the ability to do something productive with the ball. My point: There is a thread about the Magic possibly being interested in Cato, and there are posters arguing that Cato, 'fits the team, he has promise, blah blah.' You can't play team ball, especially offensively, if you're not putting solid offensive players on the floor, preferably at all positions. And I'm not talking about just being a good scorer or shooter, but understanding ball movement, angles, little things like setting picks, crashing the boards to extend the possession, elements that dictate effecient offensive play. So do the Rockets have good offensive players, or good shooters\scorers? There can be a difference.
It's easy to break down the defense and run offensive sets when neither team plays defense, especially Dallas. The games have been in the 100s!
Live, Good point, one of the Rockets weaknesses is they don't have HEADY ball players. Probably the smartest player on the team, basketball wise is KT. If it was Francis, he could lift the whole team, but unfortunatly it isn't. DaDakota
And I would have LOVED to see how the Rockets played if they had everybody at 100%. Easy to say they don't play fundamental basketball when most of the players are out, and players are out there and they rarely played together.
I haven't seen all 10 players in the zone like that. Normally you have one or two guys with great confidence, but everyone had it last night. Everyone was playing at a higher level. Everyone was scrapping and running and shooting. It was a great game.
Yes it was, but NOTHING can beat the slam Finley had over Vlade in the first half. When I saw that, I jumped out of my chair and screamed with laughter. I hate Divac so much, and seeing him get totally posterized gave me a joy I had not experienced in a long time.
I almost started a thread using this statement as the title. I think it is worth repeating: This is the way the game is meant to be played
Man that was sweet. Fin seems to be on some kind of mission to posterize every center he faces in the playoffs. First Rosho, then Divac. Would be even sweeter if he could get one on Shaq.
I loved the "fundamentals" in the game. Especially with Turkoglu jacking up errant 3's for no damn reason, Chris Webber trying to shoot THROUGH (not OVER) a freakin' double-team, errant fastbreaks where the Mavs overshoot the lead man on the break, Nowitzki the 7 footer taking the ball in for a breakaway layup (instead of slamming it) and getting stripped/blocked by Bibby, Nash driving for a layup and smiling while Christie broke away down the court to set up an easy basket, the Kings shooting a torrid 41%. I could go on, but it was a hell of a game to watch... I guess pretty much any fun game to watch overcomes the "fundamentals". There were some really boneheaded plays in this game, though. Especially by the Kings.
When you put in that much effort you are bound to get tired and make mental mistakes. I wouldn't fault these players for putting forth the effort and trying. They should be applauded for it.
