Dallas Morning News - Even before reluctantly parting with Michael Finley by trade or waivers, the Mavericks have found a replacement.

The team has reached an oral agreement with veteran swingman Doug Christie on a one-year, $3 million deal, a source said. Christie, 35, was waived Thursday by the Orlando Magic as part of the NBA's luxury-tax amnesty provision.

Before Christie officially becomes a Maverick, he must wait seven days to clear waivers, according to league rules. It is unlikely any team will claim Christie and his $8.2 million salary, making him an unrestricted free agent who could then sign with the Mavericks on Wednesday.

Christie's agent, Bradley Marshall, declined comment other than to say than Christie and his wife, Jackie, would be visiting Dallas soon to meet with the Mavericks.

If Christie is healthy and happy, he could be a key acquisition and address a targeted need for the Mavericks.

He was always a top candidate for all-defensive team honors in Sacramento, a point of emphasis under Mavericks coach Avery Johnson. And Christie has played in 58 career playoff games and could provide the Mavericks with locker room leadership.
    ......................................

I wonder if Doug Christie's wife made sure his agent mentioned her in his comments.

Well, it does give Dallas one thing......

It finally gives them ONE player that can play defense.

He's still an upgrade defensively compared to the rest of their roster.

Thats a terrible move for the Mavs, I love it!! :D Honestly possibly getting rid of Finley and signing Christie who has lost even more of a step than Finley is a bad move.

Dallas Morning News - It has also been reported that after signing veteran swingman Doug Christie, the Mavericks will also be waiving his wife, Jackie Christie, who was also included in the deal.

"Everything she does we already have in Dirk, so we thought it was unnecessary to keep her," Owner Mark Cuban announced during a press conference.

I'm shocked that they offered him $3 mil.

Okay, Mrs. Christie had no offensive game when she was in her prime, and now her defense has seriously dropped off. Sounds like a poor man's Shannn Anersn to me.

Oh yeah, and did I mention they get Mr. Christie and his handbags in the deal too?

Doug Christie needs to practice stealing the ball from the sidelines now.

Cuban should hire Jackie Christie as an assistant coach. She could teach the mavs to hand signal like spazzes throughout the course of an entire season. It's an art.

Yeah, Weisbrod pretty much gave away Mobley for nothing. His (Weisbrod's) legacy lives on.

:D Okay, I think some of the dissing of Christie and his wife has been a little overboard, but I gotta admit that was funny.

To be fair, Christie was (don't know if he still is) a good passer and a decent shooter (unless it's during crunch time). Saying that he had NO offensive game in his prime was not right.

what will really make me laugh is when one of them gets traded for cap relief.

Christie will not make the mavs any better. in fact, it makes it easier to guard them. we can double off of christie like they did to bowen. he only shoots 24% from 3.

on defense he still gets 1.5 steals per game, but i doubt he will play enough to keep that average. plus it's not like he can slow down tmac anymore.

You're absolutely right. He shot a decent (.355) from the 3 for his career, with 2 really good years. Unfortunately, his career % from the 3 in the playoffs is .302, which is why I am happy to welcome him to the Mavericks.
