Yesterday Michael Finely the mavs star guard said he was going to opt out of his contract and test free agency. The Mavs also have Steve Nash, and Shawn Bradley who might follow Finelys ways and test free agency. Imagine the mavs lose these players all they'll have is Dirk Novitsky and Mark Cuban which isnt a positive sign. ------------------
Finley only opted out to sign a bigger contract. I doubt he'll seriously consider other offers. The same will be true of most of their FAs (Trent is an exception). Bradley will get more money than he's worth from Dallas. Everyone there is loving playing for Cuban; no one will be leaving. ------------------ RealGM Gafford Art Artisan Cakes
The chance of Finley or Nash leaving is about the same as us trading Francis or Mobley. Won't happen. Cuban won't overpay to keep Bradley, but it's not like he's a big loss anyway. ------------------ "Basketball players win basketball games. Didn't Cuban say earlier in the year that he would consider overpaying to keep Bradley? ------------------
Yeah, Cuban will overpay. They are considering maxing Bradley out. The thinking is that Bradley is no superstar, but he's still a rare individual; i.e., you can't teach height. They like having his shot-blocking. And since Dallas is going to be over the cap into the foreseeable future and since Cuban doesn't care how much he spends, why not break the bank? Bradley isn't too injury-prone either. ------------------ RealGM Gafford Art Artisan Cakes
Cuban talked about this months ago. The plan has been for Finley to opt out and then max out in a new contract from Cuban. Also Cuban has made the comment that he has no intention of not keeping Bradley. Bradley will be back but I don't think it will be for the max. Bradley also made the comment during the regular season that he would stay for less. ------------------
Cuban personally told me when I met him at UT last Spring that he wants to bring everyone back, including Bradley. He also said you've gotta watch out for the Rockets because they can come back in a hurry with Mobley and Bullard hitting threes (this was right after the Mavs beat us by like 15). ------------------ "Oh No..." -Bill Walton in 97 just before Stockton's buzzer beater
Mavs maybe considering picking up Tim Hardaway. Not sure what good this will do them since he wants to be a starter & they already have Nash. However, if Hardaway can accept a bench role, this gives them a great back-up for say 12-15 min. Man, Cuban sure looks @ everything & $$$ is no object to him. ------------------ A HOUSTONIAN lost in dallas
Hakeem to Dallas sounds exactly like a move Cuban would make. He'd love the national headlines, & money is no object. Nellie could rest Hakeem a lot, and hope it pays off in the playoffs. The problem with maxing out Bradley is that he would become untradeable. I think the Mavs are smart enough to retain as much flexibility as possible going forward. That's the best way to acquire superstars under today's CBA. ------------------ KanHoop "Rarely is the question asked: Is our children learning?" -- George W. Bush, Florence, S.C., January 11, 2000
I don't think the Mavs are going to let that team break up.... their future is too bright. I still think there's a shot Hakeem may go to the Mavs, but that's just speculation. ------------------ NOTHING BUT .NET CLUTCHCITY.NET
If Hardaway or Dream go to Dallas, it'll be for $1 million or $4.5 million. Will they sign for so little? ------------------ RealGM Gafford Art Artisan Cakes
