I think he'll try to go somewhere where he has a legit chance at starting right away. Barry Warner on 610 is really high on him and suggested he should be around to push Schaub for the starting position. I like how N.D. Kalu always puts Warner in place when he starts talking just to hear himself.
Fixed. I think Leinart goes somewhere where he thinks he can earn a starting job or at least be the clear #2. The Texans site still lists him as 3rd on the depth chart. I don't think he'll be here next year. IIRC, Orlovsky signed a 3 year deal so he's got a year left. He was the backup even with Leinart on the roster so I'll assume he'll be the backup again next year.
I am listening to the post game too. I agree. I was thinking . . Why would Lienart comeback to play the role of Rosenfelds part 2??? A Player of some skill with NO CHANCE of starting. Only way he even has a shot is if there is a coaching change Rocket River
I think the Texans end up with one or the other. Supposedly Leinart has looked great in practice, so if Kubiak sticks around (God forbid), I wouldn't be surprised to see them go with Leinart. At this point Leinart is probably the cheaper option and he certainly has more upside. We know what Orlovsky is. He is a decent backup and a bad starter. Leinart hasn't really been given a real shot to show he is a starter. I'll agree that what he has shown wasn't good, but he hasn't had an extended. He might be a guy that is an elite backup with the upside to be a decent starter. At the very least, he then becomes a big trading chip. Don't forget what the Falcons got for Schaub.
He'll probably head off elsewhere. Perhaps Pete Carroll & Seattle. Surely he can beat out Charlie Whitehurst, right?
I'm surprised Leinart is still in the league. He had every chance to win the starting job in Arizona yet he lost it to Derek freakin Andersen. His inability to read defenses is puzzling and his inability to throw anything more than a check down is just as puzzling. The guy has the arm to make all the throws but lacks the brains needed to play the position.
If Kubiak is fired. . . .goes to Denver . . . It would not surprise me if Kubes tried to take Leinart with him Rocket River
if i'm bob mcnair i order kubiak to start leinart next week. no need to risk injury to shaub, no moral victories will be earned for a hard fought win...you need to see if he is an asset or liability. right now, all i know is that when it was questioned in week umpteen if schaub would start, dumb orlovsky took first team snaps while schaub got his bursitis taken care of. to me, that spoke volumes about how pathetic leinart is.
because I honestly think Matt Lienart's dream job is being a back up. That dude just seems like he has zero interest in actually playing QB in the NFL.
This. Lienart wants a paycheck. I don't think he has the mentality to be a starting QB in the NFL. Who needs hard work?
He doesn't deserve to be a backup here. Not saying we should pick up a high prospect, but at least with Sage you knew he wouldn't screw over your team 95% of the time. 5% of the time he completely blows up. Rex, Leinart, Dan O., I'm tired of seeing this recycling bin of busts strategy.
Everything I heard around draft time was the opposite - arm strength was his one big weakness. He's a lot like Colt McCoy in that regard - really accurate, but not the rifle arm. In college, it was fine because he had superstar receivers and a ridiculous offensive line. He just waited until there was enough separation and then could lob the ball deep. But that doesn't really work in the NFL.
i'd be shocked if this is the case. Carroll has already had one opportunity to acquire his services and said no thanks. what has he done since then that would change Pete's mind?
Pete will probably not want to go another year with Hasselbeck/Whitehurst if he can't acquire a better QB than Leinart via draft/trade.
again, he could have had him for league minimum this year and developed him knowing that Hasselback is old and Whitehurst is nothing. He chose to pass and did so in a very public manner. He knows Leinart and knows he's a buster. i keep coming back to schaubs knee problem where there was a possibility he would miss a critical (hahah) game. It was not leinart that was taking first team snaps that week. it was orlovsky. i think we can all agree that orlovsky was a horrendous signing and cannot play in the nfl. yet he was still slated ahead of leinart in kubiaks eyes.
