Matt Harpring is a good 3-pt shooter and can play both SG / SF. He's also a decent defender. We can prob. sign him for the MLE.
He may find houston intriguing, if yao and t-mac are healthy he would have a better shot at winning here rather than utah. and he would be almost a perfect compliment. He plays defense and he plays hard, not to mention he can shoot. he played 71 games last season, not too bad, 78 the season before.
The Rockets needed Harpring about Four or Five Seasons ago.2006-07 is too far along in his career . We need younger players, who are less injury prone to develop with Yao Ming. We have tried the quick fix idea for the last four seasons, now we need planning and development towards a Championship, it will take time and money!
harpring's played behind stockton & malone. he knows and has the ability to be a third piece. a sura and harpring backcourt would bring toughness that has been missing for season.
Maybe with the help of a time machine. At this point Sura coming back at anything more than a shell will be a miracle, and I'm not really interested in Harpring's chronic knee problems. We've been burned enough by the injury bug already.
Exactly great post come on rockets fans how many teams that have old men running around out there are in the playoffs?
the thing about harpring is the media are speculating that his past injuries will drive down his value in free agency. unless he has a career ending injury the guy will be easily tradeable and rockets simply need all the value/bargain talent they can sign.
First, T-Mac plays the 3, not the 2, as has been reiterated over and over. Given this, who seriously wants Harpring at the 2? Even assuming his injuries don't continue to be problematic, he's waaaay too slow to shore up that perimeter defense everyone's been complaining about. Yeah, he's pretty good guarding 3s, but he'll come at too high a price to be a backup. (and besides, if he wanted to be a backup, he'd stay in Utah).
