With all of these appreciation threads lately one that has gone un-noticed is the Bull, Bulls-eye, Matt Bullard. His insight into the games has been great and he's never afraid to call it like he sees it. Last night he was all over the refs for the missed calls on Yao and bad calls against the Rockets. I can remember how bad it was when the original coach of the comets, Van Chancellor, was doing commentary for the Rockets. Ouch! It was almost like listening to the cajun assistant coach in Happy Gillmore. However, his rendition of Eminem's "Lose Yourself" is simply awesome! Anyway, give it up for Bull. He could become one of the best tv announcers the Rockets have ever had.
i wish he was there with Bill for all the games...and not splitting it with Clyde. his analysis' are always confidently explained.
I enjoy his Bulls Eye segments. I could use a little more of those, but maybe without so many "Alright, stop it right there." His strident homerism, particularly with the officiating on Yao, is grating to me, however. That's one area in which Clyde is a little better.
Bullard seems like a great guy, but his commentary is way too corny for my taste. Close to zero percent of his jokes are funny, and he repeats the same anecdotes game after game. Again, nice guy and he knows his Rockets history and all, but his personality kills me.
Hell yes. Bull is a badass announcer. Every game he brings it (even when he has keys to the game references to ZZ top songs). He does call it like it is, albeit from a homer's perspective. He needs to get in there and fight with some of the refs. That'd be pretty entertaining.
I can respect how it would piss off some people. Thing is, he's announcing in Houston. So majority of the listeners would want the announcer to back up how they're feeling, especially after a bad call. I don't know, maybe I'm wrong and I kind of like the homerisms from him. I'll tell ya this bro, I would take Matt's corny comments all day long over Clyde's "Battier is such a consummate professional" and "nothing but net" comments.
Bull is the kinda guy that you just want to sit on your couch with and watch a game. He's a corky guy that makes you chuckle occasionally as well as not being afraid to rip the refs whenever there is a faulty call. Got the love Bull. I think with him and Bill, the games always feel like you're watching it with a couple friends.
He is a homer understandable but those bull-eyes thing take forever to play i wish that he did them a lot quicker. we always end up missing some game action because of that. where has clyde been lately anyway?
Bullard is one of the most biased commentators I've ever heard. Besides his Bulls-Eye stuff, he's pretty much horrible.
I wondered the same thing. That being said, I love Clyde and all, but Bull does a better job. Yes, he's a homer, but most of the time he's partially right. There are a lot of times I agree with what he says as opposed to the few times I disagree with him. I can't understand why everyone doesn't like the Bull's Eye sessions... those are really good for the "casual" viewer, or kids who want to get better at the sport. Or heck a lot of sports journalist could get some knowledge out of them. I do wish they wouldn't do them in game... and find a way so that Bull can pause the video on his own.
Bullard is a good guy... a favorite when he was a player...but a pretty terrible color guy in my opinion. He has a 10% hit rate on his corny jokes. His Bulls-Eye segment states the obvious and offers absolutely no real insight for a fan who regularly watches games. But of course it's not like Clyde is any better... but Clyde kind of has that Bill Walton "this guy is so ridiculous it's funny" thing going on. I actually thought Van C. was decent. JVG's my fave though.
i can't say that i'll ever forget his funny one-liner earlier this year...or maybe it was last year.. but the rockets were playing the thunder and OKC was beginning to go on a run because they were down by a good amount of points and matt bullard said something along the lines of.... "it's getting a little loud in here...i think i'm beginning to hear some thunder" it wasn't verbatim but his delivery and wit made me roll on the floor laughing.
He defintely needs to speed up the Bull's Eye commentary. He makes a carrer out of a play development. Otherwise, he is a gamer.
is that the one who is like: " and Yao says, I gotta rookie on me, let me put him in the chamber" " And he said i am going to keep shooting until one goes in" " And he said block that" I hate him
I wish Bull would have won that "dream job" contest with ESPN a few years ago. He would have been great to have as an analyst for the national media with a little Rockets influence. Maybe then BSPN would not sound like ignorant idiots every time they try to break down our team
I agree. He annoys me immensely. -Corny jokes, often in the form of a question -Too much of a homer -His Bulls Eye segments take forever and he overexplains everything to the point that nothing has been added I honestly would rather have Clyde, who isn't good either.
