Overrated athlete, scorer, shooter...everything. But, I guess at that price he's definitely worth a shot. He's used to playing uptempo too which is a plus.
He should fit in well in Phoenix. And if he doesn't look good playing with Steve Nash, we know for sure it was just one good year in Don Nelson's system.
He can be useful for the Suns. How does this league fund work like? I've never heard of it before. Will his entire salary count as part of the cap or only the part that doesn't come out of the league fund?
Agree...I remember last year when he cried a river because no one would sign him because he thought he deserved a huge payday for being a part of the warriors beating Dallas.
It's the same as the one Deke gets. Second one year contract in a row. Barnes wanted the full MLE last year, maybe the same this year? Next season it might be harder with teams looking to conserve cap space. The season after teams might just not have the money. I think he should have aimed lower and settled for a multi-year contract in the 3 mill range.
I see that's interesting. How does one become eligible for the league fund? Can you give me some more details please.
He's overrated only in his own mind. Nobody else thinks much of him. Not a very good player. It's hard to believe but some people here wanted him on the Rockets last summer.
A player the Rox should have gotten especially for the price. Is a posey type of guy in a sense. A pretty good defender and the year before was playing good minutes and producing. Can guard multiple positions at 6'8 and long. Under 30 and would have fit well especially for 700k.
That's kind of the point. I remember arguing with people how they thought he was better than the likes of Travis Outlaw and other FA's at the time. People kept mentioning him last summer and we've all read a few whispers about him this summer too.
My guess is the glow of the Warriors beating the hated Mavs made him seem (to some people) better than he was. I can't think of any other reason. I watched the Warriors semi-regularly the last two seasons and Barnes is mediocre at the very best.
Agreed. He's nothing special and much like Pietrus if you can't take advantage of an uptempo situation with more possessions/shots to go around and less attention paid to you then you have serious problems.
I would have liked to add Barnes last year. I thought he would have really helped our bench. A mediocre guy off the bench in his prime doesn't normally come for the league min. Barnes for an LLE level money would be a good deal for most teams (though Barry for an LLE is even better). When guys like Dooling and Lue and Azubike are gettting 2.5 mil and up, Barnes for the min or Barry for an LEE are amazing steals. A very good contract signing if this happens. I wonder if there is a wink-wink arrangement next year (play good and get up to xxxx, play bad an still get yyyy) and a dealling of Diaw for a guard in the works. With Hill returning + adding Barnes and Lopez (which kinda makes Amare a permanent PF), Phx needs to move Diaw. One of Chicago or Seattle's points or combo guards maybe???
I don't know why some of you guys are criticizing this... but I think this is a good pick-up. For the minimum salary? This doesn't hurt them at all. If anybody can make this dude look better, it's Steve Nash
