Can some post the old discussions. Thanks. I want to see what you'all had to say. I just saw it. It wasn't as bad I thought it was supposed to be. What I didn't like: You'd think after three movies they would have eliminated the silly stuff like the Mu ha ha laugh by agent smith, the rag tag clothing on every person seemed pointless, the constant cursing (God Damn it! was said like 10x in a row), and then having the sentinel form a face to speak seemed weak. The awkwardness of meeting a new oracle could have been left out. To be honest, I wouldn't even had known she was different actress if they didn't point it out. Another loose end they could have shown was the freeing of the humans and how they had been effected by Matrix. Or perhaps they could shown me how agent smith was destroying the machine world. Those changes would have tidied the end up a little for me. What I liked: I liked the clunky machine-humans that defended Zion. I liked the sentinels, the battle scenes, and the machine city. That was probably 75% of the film. Visually stunning. I even liked the silly monologues in the train station. I kind of get that. It set up the relationship between the machines and humans. And put them in some kind of gray area to make the point clearer. Thus tying together the treaty at the end. Overall: I'd give it a B-. Just because it seemed to have more purpose than Reloaded.
I got TiVo for Xmas. And I have seen Matrix II & III I did google search Matrix Revolutions to see if I could an explanation of the whole Oracle + Smith ending. For what I gather one has to connect a lot of dots to get any real meaning out if it, which was more work than I frankly wanted to do. For lack of cleaning up all of the story lines in a nice clean bow, I give Revolutions a D.
It wasn't that bad...I loved all of the first one like everyone, the Frenchman and the car chase in II and the fighting to protect Zion in III... The problem is, its so hard to get better than perfect...Way too much dialogue and story in the last two, but I still saw them and bought the DVD's...
Here's my advise for the Matrix films for those who may know someone (who possibly has been lost at see or was just unfrozen... or something) who hasn't seen any of them. Watch only the first one. repeatedly. NEVER see another MATRIX movie afterwards. You're welcome in advance.
Matrix Convolutions sucked! I went easy on Matrix Unloaded initially(even though I still thought it was a mediocre sequel) because I figured I had to wait for the third film for all the questions to be answered. Well, they hardly resolved a thing and they ended it with one of the lamest deus ex machinas I've ever seen.
Loved the first one. The second one was crap. The best parts everyone had seen on the trailers. The last one I thought was pretty good actually. The defence of Zion is unforgetable, also when they break through the clouds as they head for the machine city and you realise its the first time these people have ever seen the blue sky. The ending wasnt bad....but I guess you kind of wanted to see the machines get what was coming to them.
I thought they were all watchable. The first film just set such a high standard that it was impossible for the sequels to live up to the expectations.
"Neo, we can not see past the decisions we do not understand" I still do not get it. Cerial box, Eastern philosophy, methinks.
I was too Agent Smithed out. I mean come on. The only thing deadlier than 1 agent smith is 2, or 3, or 4, or 400...
the 4th one is coming out soon....errrrrr Constantine....have you seen how they tried to catch the matrix audience by using the same greenish color around the letters in the trailer?
I thought this was interesting. It is a very detailed essay trying to explain the Matrix from a Religious perspective. Probably tainted by some viewpoint, but very detailed, so it's interesting. http://wylfing.net/essays/matrix_revolutions.html
The first one is fastly becoming overrated in an attempt to tear down the sequels, much like Jurrasic Park and The Lost World (JP3 did in fact suck).
Neo offering himself "up on a cross" to save humans from the machines and saving the machines from Smith....kinda what I figured would happen. Revolutions was decent. It stole from too many sources: "Return of the Jedi" and "Star Wars" (see also, X-wings inside Death Star with tie fighters chasing [but getting shot at like when the Millenium Falcon escaped the Death Star in the first of those films] in order to reach the center, except in this case as salvation rather than destruction); "Superman II" (kicking each other's butt over the city streets); etc. The dialogue was stupefying for both sequels. And no real fresh ideas. Hmn, we have to have something happen here. Ah-hah! I know! GREAT IDEA! LET'S HAVE ANOTHER CHOP SOCKY FIGHT! And let's make sure Neo still wears that cool-looking long black jacket which would actually hamper his movements while fighting a stronger and deadlier opponent! (Wearing my black leather coat made me even worse at shooting baskets with my nephews last weekend, and I need all the help I can get.) And check out when Trinity exits the subway at the beginning of Revolutions; and how she runs in slow-mo, like some sort of bad commercial, or "Sound of Music", etc. And when Trinity dies, her speech goes on forever. Look, I'm a sensitive soul, and even I was like, Just die, damn! SHUT UP! WE GET IT! YOU'RE DEAD MEAT. Fine. SHUT UP! "I can't go on without you, Trinity." Uh, Neo? You're gonna have to, bud. I paid $6 for this matinee. Go kick some butt. You've got a little bit of movie left to redeem two highly disappointing sequels.
while the first Jurassic Park is so good it cannot be overrated (i liked Lost World as well, just not nearly as much), i agree. all of a sudden the first one is the greatest movie ever made. much like terminator 2 became the greatest movie ever made once T3 came out (and i say that as someone who watches T2 damn near every time it's on tv). i really like the original matrix. i love reloaded. the highway chase scene is enough to make it one of my favorite movies ever. the beginning scene, 100 smith fight, and architect scene just make it that much better. revolutions was a big letdown when i saw it in the theater and yet hbo has been showing it the last few days and i've enjoyed it a lot more now that it's removed from the unbelievable hype that surrounded it. just trying to enjoy it on its own hasn't been so bad. granted i've jumped in after the train station stuff both times i've seen it but the battle scenes weren't as repetitive as i remembered and neo v smith was better than i remembered. i still would've liked more action inside the matrix and yes, trinity took WAAAAAYYYYYY too long to die. chop that scene in half or a third and you've got a good death scene. that was a scene where you could just sense everyone in the theater starting to squirm as it just kept going. so for me reloaded>matrix>revolutions. all at least fairly enjoyable though.
Sequels never live up to the original. With that being said I enjoyed the second one, and was OK with the third one. The original was so good, its hard to compare the rest. I cant wait to see Constatine
THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK. As for the Matrix, I found it to be an interesting phenomenon that it started well with the opening scene of the first film, buit from that point began it's slow but steady decline to the final crapulance that was the end of Revolutions. To me the trilogy seemed less the deep philosophical marvel it is touted as and more an excercise in special effects. A much more successful attempt at dazzling with special effects while still provinding an excellent story far overshadowed the Matrix trilogy - the Lord of the Rings.
