I logged onto Yahoo Finance this morning to see that Johnson and Johnson will let go of 8,000 employees while Siemens and Nokia will let go of 5,000 employees. The Dow has dropped about 250 points past few days and also down about 40 points as I write this today.

What is your outlook on our current situation?
Has this affected your life directly in any way?

What happens when those with no jobs can't pay mortgage?

There was a great episode in its always sunny about the self sustaining economy. While it was comical it might be line what the US govt is doing.

I expect a pullback from the market. Hopefully not too severe, but people smarter than me are concerned.

this happens everytime, AL. it's not like we haven't seen it before. that's why recoveries are longer than we might think.

but this time last year the sky was falling...now we're looking at a growing economy in spite of being on the brink just 12 months earlier. one step at a time.

i juist hope politicians don't try another ridiculous "stimulus package"

I'm suprised so many are laying people off now, and not 8 months ago...but maybe they thought they could avoid it.

As sports fans, I think we should be concerned with this trend of going to a sporting event being too expensive. There was an article on ESPN a couple of weeks ago that talked about how if you make over $150K a year, going to a sporting event live fits into your budget but if you make less than $150K a year, forget about it.

If it gets to the point that fewer and fewer people are going to sporting events live, then that will cause teams to lose money and fold. Looks like some drastic things will have to occur to stop that from happening, IMO.

Except real unemployment is at its greatest since the great depression. What will be the catalyst to change that?

I disagree. Ensuring people can support themselves is an important part of "we're recovering". While leading indicators suggest we will recover, I think it is premature to spike the football until one crosses the goalline as you never know when someone will fumble the ball.

Teams could just start paying players less. If the salaries are reduced league wide, players don't have much of a choice unless they jump over to Europe. (in regards to the NBA)

i didn't say we recovered...i said we're recovering. and it may not be a straight line up. it may not be a V shaped curve.

to fail to acknowledge that is to fail to realize how dire it was back in September of 08.

well we have a growing economy now...so i'm guessing that will...as it has been before...over and over again. until it all happens again.

No, its the fact that he's had to increase his robbings by 10% to meet his weekly goals.
