I wish I could hear some of those tapes. Would be a freaking justice after all of those beheading videos.
How did Jack's speech go in A Few Good Men? There are things the government has to do to protect us that we don't need to know. The American public always feel they need to know and have the right to know everything about everyone.
It's revenge, not justice you seek... at least, not justice as defined by this country prior to the W administration... and you seem awfully certain that the people we've tortured had something to do with the beheadings besides looking like those people.
And we all know what happened to his character... one of the problems with torture is that it corrupts the minds of the Americans doing the torture.
caseyh brings a sort of truthfulness though, i'm quite sure a number of people support torture out of a revenge factor.
Nope. You don't get good info, it endangers our own troops, corrupts the people doing the torturing, and is against all that we fought for in WWII and stood for in the post-WWII world.
It's never necessary to try to obtain more info? Never been helpful? Should not put our troops at more risk.
My understanding is that the authority is several respected military psych works, and the post-medieval view on torture is: yields unreliable intel more often than not. Subjects tell you what they think you want to hear. I am not an expert, but every thread on this topic has only come up with those references to go on, with no substantive rebuttals beyond Jack Bauer (sp?). But I know, 24 is so believable. Who to trust?
