Yesterday, while working out at the gym, I was listening to 97.9 the Bizzox and I heard Natay do her "Entertainers" thing... During her spiel, she mentioned that Mase was slated to make a comeback and had already recorded a single for Nelly's new album! I was stunned! As the world's biggest Mase fan, I couldn't have been more pleased. Natay went on to state that Mase was in the process of recording a new song, called "Welcome Back", based on the "Welcome Back Kotter" theme song. I was freakin' ecstatic... But remembering a thread by AlexVanderpool a few weeks back when he stated that the same Natay from 97.9 had stated that "Chappelle's Show" was about to be canceled, I chalked up Mase's return as another unfounded rumor. Then, after returning from the gym this morning, I saw a message on my answering machine at 8:00am. I thought, "Who the hell is calling me this early in the morning?" Turned out it was my sister. She was freaking out b/c she had just heard the new Mase song, "Welcome Back" on the radio in Austin. Since I hadn't told her the rumor I heard yesterday... she was in a state of shock (as the world's #2 Mase fan)... So I downloaded the song at work today and listened to it... He's cleaned up his lyrical act (no cursing, saying he's not doing drugs anymore)... But damn it felt good to hear that soothing, lazy voiced rapping style. Welcome back Mase! The game missed you!
I was listening to a show here in Dallas a month ago where they were saying he was coming back, but it wouldn't be hardcore or like the Mase of old. He apparently will try to be mainstream and his lyrics will have a purpose. I'll be happy if his lyrics are intelligible and he's not slobbering on himself when he rhymes like he used to. Open your damn mouth and enunciate!
i always thought he kinded sounded like he was just talking when he flowed. but on that note he is better then a lot of the mainstream stuff thats out there right now in hiphop.
Ma$e isn't nearly my favorite person, but I really can respect him.... (from a hip hop forum) Former Rapper-Turned-Pastor Mase Returing to Hip-Hop Written by: Jay Casteel Monday - March 29, 2004 Wow, this is one surprise to even me. Mase, former Bad Boy Records artist, who gave up hip-hop to pursue a career in religion may be picking up the mic once again. According to a New York Daily News report, Mase is still under contract with Bad Boy Records, but is trying to work out a deal with Nelly's Fo' Real Records for a comeback. "Yes it is true," Fo' Real President Ed Holmes told the NY Daily News. "But we're in the process of trying to structure something with Bad Boy to allow Mase to do this project." If you are thinking a Christian rap album, no it's back to the same ol' Mase except without the profanity. "No! It's definitely hip-hop," said Holmes to NY Daily News. "There's no profanity, though. He's still talking about relevant issues." Mase, also known as Mason Betha, retired from the rap game back in 1999 and enrolled in Clark Atlanta University to complete his bachelor's degree, before turing himself over to the Lord as a Pastor. _________________
Heard the song and was impressed. Good to hear Ma$e again. I mean let's face it, God gave him the gift to rap, and not to preach (I heard him on TBN a couple times and it wasn't easy to watch)
Wonder when he'll do another duet with Puffy... Mase is definitely one of the most entertaining rappers of all time...if you ve never heard of him, check out these songs: Been Around and Been Around remix Mo Money Mo Problems (Puffy, Mase, and Biggy) Only You (112 and Mase) Love Me (112 and Mase) The entire Harlem World CD The Majority of Puffy's No Way Out CD Puffy basically launched Badboy off of of the talents of two rappers: Big and Mase. Rumors have it that Puffy withheld payment causing Mase to leave Badboy near the end of his career...After he left Badboy, his music was crap.
So you can't be "born again" and rap? Or rap about anything besides Jesus? Get a clue. Christians are allowed to have a life, contrary to some naive beliefs. Will Smith doesn't have to curse to sell records. Now Mase won't have to curse, talk sex, drugs or thug to sell records either. And if he mentions Jesus, props to him for being real. It's time for Christians to break off somethin' anyway. We been shut up in our closets too long. We may not be "of the world," but we are still "in the world." Occupy 'til He comes. (see Luke 19:13) That involves getting P-A-I-D. It takes $ to live. Living = occupying.
I dunno... know anybody that got shot recently? Does Sting need some royalties? Is Faith Evans still available? Hey let's make it a giant reunion.
I learned to Appreciate Mase after he left the game His verse on 112 song was classic ' . . IF I DIE NOW MY LOVE WILL STILL HAUNT YOU" I love that line Puffy Launched BADBOY off the TALENT of: CRAIG MACK Flava in Ya Ear launched the label When Biggie came along . . .Puffy basically stuffed Craig into the closet and went with THE NEXT BIG THING good business move . . but IMO kind of crappy to do with the guy that put u on the map Puffy rode BIGGIE and MASE's coattails [hell Biggie was all of JR Mafia and Lil Kim's 1st albums] biggie died and Mase Left looked like Puffy had a winner in SHYNE but well . .we know what happened there Now. . .Who is on Bad Boy that is worth a d*mn?
