Anyone "in the know" have any information about the plans for a new ballpark to keep the Marlins in Florida?

The last I heard on this was that the legislature let a crucial deadline pass and one of the state senators said, "this is a dead deal."

So is this a free agent franchise at this point??

Anyone here from Miami?? Following the progress??

As an Astros fan I despise the Marlins.

    Marlins 2

    Astros 0

Makes me fell like the stros are cursed.

My understanding is that the new owner is still holding out hope that a deal will be done relatively soon that will result in a new ballpark in South Florida. So hope is not completely gone.

It's unlikely they'll move until after the Expos are moved, though. My understanding is that there's significant opposition to giving Jeffrey Loria the Washington, D.C. market.

unless they were competing with the Expos for the most desirable location.

i've visited that site before...but that stuff about the new ballpark there hasn't changed since May when the Florida legislature nixed the deal.

Yeah, but baseball doesn't work the way the other sports do. Their antitrust exemption seems to give the Commissioner power over franchise shifts, and the commissioner is apparently saying the Expos will get the best available market. It's not entirely clear MLB would let the Marlin move at all. They've certainly taken their time with the Expos.

Without that antitrust exemption, I think we'd have seen both the Expos and Marlin move already.
