The Golden State Warriors have agreed to trade forward/center Marc Jackson to the Minnesota Timberwolves for center Dean Garrett and a future second-round pick, a source told ESPN's David Aldridge. Somebody remind me why we weren't interested? Seems like the Wolves got him cheap, no?
The Rockets were interested..... they just could not acquire him because of league rules. The Rockets made the offer to Jackson and GS matched it... Houston as a result can't get Jackson for one year. If that rule wasn't in place, then just about every Golden State out there would match the offers and then try to work a deal with that same team (in this case, Houston).
In typical Golden State fashion they really diminished Jackson's value by refusing to play him. In matching Houston's offer, they were determined to get something for him. Dean Garrett and a 2nd round pick ain't much. Good deal for the Wolves, especially with Trent hurting as usual.
Now, someone tell me why would Glden State make this trade rather than the Suns trade? I'm completely shocked. Dean Garrett will get the same minutes Marc was getting, DNP-s, or 5 minutes. He won't play above Dampier or Foyle. He can't even beat Troy Murphy to C minutes, and Murphy's a rookie. Basically, a second round pick and a cap filler? Why not trade him for Kurt Thomas, or Clarence Weatherspoon, or with Larry Hughes to someone who needs SG/C depth? It's ridiculous what they did. The PR beating they took wasn't worth the 2nd round pick.
A funny take from someone (not me) on a GS board: Garry St. Jean, Warriors GM: I thought he said, "Garnett is such a dick, I'd even kick in cash..." Kevin McHale, T'wolves GM: What I actually said was, "Garrett, a bad pick and stick you in the a--." Phone Guy: Sprint PCS - The clear alternative to cellular...
LOL! Swopa, bad trade right? EVERY GS fan agrees it's a bad trade right? Not even worth the bad PR they got. right?
The whole Golden State thing is amazing: First, they wait until the last minute to match our offer to Jackson, right before our injury exception expired, @#%*ing us. Also, of course, they trap Jackson against his wishes on a team overloaded with players at his position, @#%*ing Jackson and @#%*ing their own team chemistry. Then, when potential suitors come calling for Jackson, the Warriors ask them for the sun and the moon in return - all for a guy with about 2/3 of an NBA season under his belt. Finally, with their season in flames and their coach fired, they deal Jackson for Dean Garrett (another big body they have no minutes for) and a pick somewhere in the back of the 2nd round. Golden State has not only passed the Clippers as the worst organization, it's shot by them at the speed of sound.
The reason they gave for accepting the trade is mind boggling - they wanted to have the cap space free at the end of the year - which they would have had if they hadn't signed him at all. They bought a 2nd round pick for 2 million dollars or half of one season for Marc Jackson.
St Jean needs his ass kicked. If he had given Jackson time, he would have showed he was better than both the centers they have . To top that, he killed his trade value. He probably could have given up Jackson,Mills,Blaylock, and Hughes for Best and Jalen. He is such a dumb ass. Never in my life has i seen a guy gets fired from coaching then goes to another franchise as a gm. the warriors needs their ass kicked.
I know the Rockets are really frustrated with this scenario. So instead of finalizing the deal with the Rocks, GS pisses off all sorts of people for what amounts to a late 2nd round pick. I'm sure that was worth all the bad press they received. The only winner here is the Wolves. Marc probably isn't too happy because he'll probably get limited playing time. Oh well. It's just not a nice scenario for anybody.
Why the Wolves of all teams? Were they purposely looking to the team on the list that can give him least playing time?
It was reported off and on that GSW was trying to get $$$ compensation to pay for the half year the Warriors paid acson to essentially sit on the bench. Most of the trade rumors involved ways of getting a player in the final year of the contract, a unprotected draft pick, and cash back to pay the money paid to Jackson. Even the trade to MIN was strictly to cut cap. Their owner is pretty miserly, so I am sure the thought of paying a luxury tax, especially with that crappy roster, was a prime motivator in trading for Garrett and some conditional second round (read: unguaranteed contract) pick.
