damn. why dont we ever try to do a sign and trade? is quitten the last/biggest sign and trade we did?
Carmelo Anthony is also a possibility. Mavericks dealing their SF for the sake of making a deal and nothing else it seems. One day they will realize Dirk is the bad apple.
I feel Atlanta won't let Josh Smith go. Marion is certainly a possibility because Miami could lose him after one more season. Josh Howard plus Stackhouse or fillers/1st round pick might be enough. Ziggy is right,Carmelo is a possibility too.
Dallas is running out of ammo. There was once a time when they had a ton of chips for any trade they want. Now, Kidd's contract is an albatross. Josh Howard is at an all-time low trade value wise. All other main contributers minus Brandon Bass are over 30... The roster is getting to the point where they can only make lateral moves now. The Mavs days as contender is done unless they pull a Gasol-esque trade.
marion wants that long term deal, is it legal for someone to discuss/offer that before he opts out of his current deal?
Got a strong strong feeling that Miami will want to try the Wade/ Marion/ healthy roster combination for a season and see how it flies. They'll pick a C in the draft and build around those 3.
I think he would opt out first and then get a sign/trade deal between the 2 teams. I would like to know if that's correct or not.
Thank god the salary cap/luxury tax is in place to keep Cuban from Yankeeing his way through free agency. Instead, he's gotta figure out a way to burst their payroll through 25% incremental increases in bad contracts through the S-n-T. The Mavericks like the Suns are finished in the West. Their window has closed, and every other contender besides the Spurs are younger and hungrier and on the way up. I wouldn't be surprised to see them miss the playoffs. I don't care what over-the-hill star they syphon Josh Howard into. Josh Howard was one of the main reasons they got to the finals two years ago. Marion or Josh Smith is not an upgrade over what he used to be.
Even if they don't trade JoshHoward I expect him and the rest of Mavs to bounce back now they've gotten rid of the team cancer that Avery was.
Tell me who on the Mavericks will be better next year. Devin Harris? Whoops. Here's the list of players on the Mavs with upside: Brandon Bass JJ Barea List over.
What does the term limited salary protection mean? I noticed that players like Brandon Bass and Ramon Sessions are mentioned as such in the ESPN 2008 NBA free agent list.
Interesting,so am I right in assuming that their respective teams could have a hard time re-signing them?
If the Heat get one of the top 2 picks there is no way they will draft a C. Then again, maybe you think a lot more of Brook Lopez than I do. On the Mavs, some of you are underestimating how good a coach Rick Carlisle is. I think he may not fit there and also agree the Mavs will have a tough time being a Finals contender next season, but they aren't going to crumble and die. A few tweaks to the roster and they will win a lot of games. For the record, I don't like them any more than anyone else here. Just being real.
They need to unload Dirk. He was overrated even when he was at his best but now he is shot mentally and seems to have lost the part of his game that set him apart from other PFs. He is Dallas' verson of Tmac although as much as I'm down on McGrady I would not trade him for Dirk.
So, Cubes decrees and all stars magically land in Dallas? C'mon. JO'N? He could be a Mav. Larry Basketball will deal with the devil to be free of that contract - and if he can foist Tinsley as part of the deal then Bird will soar higher than an American jet.
dirk only has to do one thing and that's score. the tmac we have does basically a little bit of everything.
If I were the Heat, I'd take a Josh Howard + Jason Terry for Marion (that works capwise). This would also be ideal for Jason Kidd and Dirk. 1. A swingman that plays above the rim...essentially a much better Kenyon Martin or Richard Jefferson. 2. A forward that rebounds and defends so Dirk doesn't have to match up against the quicker PFs on a nightly basis (he can just slide to the 5) Miami gets their point guard, let Wade play his natural position, and they get a scoring small forward. If they can use their pick for a big man, they'll be right back in the thick of things (Howard/Terry/Wade should be enough to get them a top 5 spot in the east) As for Josh Smith: no way they trade him for Howard. Smith, although limited on offense compared to Howard, carries that Atlanta team on defense.
