"One team source said it's about 50-50 that Marion gets jettisoned, but if he stays, something or someone has to give."

I think they may have to trade him. Although, if they do - they won't be as good. Nash and Amare are the superstars, but Marion is the glue-guy...he's their most versatile player for defense and a beast on the boards.

However, if they can get the 5th pick and Green or Jefferson from the Celtics they'll be alright.

When considering a Marion trade its important to note that the result could completely change the Suns style of play. Because of that I doubt it happens. Also I believe the Suns own Atlanta's unprotected lotto pick next year, meaning Phoenix really could get the 1st pick next season.

    Wow. Trading away:

-who is arguably the best defender you have (Raja Bell can't defend 2s, 3s, AND 4s)
-who actually fits with your uptempo style of play
-who can rebound and can, at times, do it better than Amare

I know it's primarily for cap reasons but I would soon trade Amare than trade Marion away. What can Amare do that Marion can't do? That pick and roll with Nash? Recover from microfracture knee surgery? Nothing against Amare, but if the Suns do trade away Marion for a high draft pick, they're going to have a bigger hole to fill than trading Amare away.

Well theres the whole ego thing starting to come through too. Both Marion and Amare think they are the man. Amare doesn't like that people think he is riding Nash while Marion thinks he is underappreciated.

amare - not a superstar. marion is more important to their team than amare.

I understand where they are coming from. People get lost that they were all-stars before Nash.

If it was up to me , I would shop Marion. Need some type of inside presence and thats amare.

only marion was the official all-star before nash got there. amare was NOT an all-star until he teamed up with nash. amare's first all-star game was in nash's first year in phx (04-05).

They've been threatening to trade him for the past 5 summers now. Nothing to see here.

Rookie of the year. Amare would be Amare without Nash.

nope. hosed if they get green, he is trash right now, plus no way the contracts add up.

jefferson would be great, I dunno if he fits in there system, but he is a great player. But again, the salaries don't add up.

Boston has a huge expiring contract in Theo Ratliff that can be used in this trade to ballance out the contracts. If the Suns want to trade Marion they would never get equal value in return, and this one with the Celtics might be as good as it gets. They got the expiring contract that they want, a decent player in Jefferson, and a high pick in a deep draft.

celtics would be stupid to include jefferson in the deal. jefferson would give the sun a true low post option they desepartely needs.

The Marion-Amare locker room tension has been bad for a while. Also, The team is staring down lux tax issues with 3 max/near max deals on the books. They ditched their first rounders last year (Rondo at 21, Sergio at 27) because Sarver didn't want the added guaranteed payroll.

Maybe if they made the Finals this year or last it would be different, but Sarver isn't willing to foot the bill for a non-title team.
