6 sacks in 5 games. And he's pretty much doing it with no help at all (except for the MIA game) and many times against double teams. On pace to get 19 sacks this year. Scary thing is....after 5 games last year, he only had 3. Wow. Remember when people were calling him a "bust"? LOL.
"Where the haters at??" We should go look back at those 2006 draft threads... Some people have some major crow to eat.
the thing that's great about mario - and i argued this endlessly last year when everyone was screaming about his lack of sacks early inthe year - is that he's a complete defensive end. he plays the run exceptionally well and he's all over the field. the first time i watched him live ('06 season in dallas), i thought, "my god - he's going to be a star." i was never down on the pick; i preferred bush but understood their thinking. but once i saw him in person - wow. that was it for me. i think he's only going to get better. still only what? 22. we're talking scary good; like "first-ever texan hall of famer" good.
I had predicted a 20 sack season for Mario. Some friends laughed at me. I know it's kind of out there, but I just had this feeling that last year was just the beginning of what is going to be a HOF career. Eventually, teams are going to have to do more to stop him...though I don't think they can.
I have to agree. This guy is an exceptional athletic individual with some serious speed for his size.
does anyone have the clip of him doing the lambada after his second sack yesterday? Thanks in advance. =)
he already gets double teamed most of the game. no team will be able to contain him all game long. too big, too strong, too fast.
It makes it even more embarassing for guys like Weaver that we can't seem to get much of any pressure from the other side of the line.
That's why I'm hoping Bulman continues to develop. I think with some more work he can be the bookend end the Texans need to give the opponent something to think about. He put some pressure on Pennington yesterday and he appears to have the combination of size (about 6'4", 290 or so but at DE could stand to lose a few pounds) and quickness (not always speed, but gets off the line well) that will give opponents something to worry about.
i loved the play yesterday where over powered 2 guys at once... trying to block him and still got the sack. every time i see him ->
The lack of production from other defensive lineman is really bothersome, especially considering the amount of resources we've invested in them. Also curious to see how much of it has to do with the scheme. I know he's still really young but Amobi's main selling point was his ability to get to the QB, he hasn't been close to one so far this season.
While I think you are exaggerating to say he hasn't gotten close because he has put pressure on the QB several times that I can remember so far this year, I have been disappointed in him overall as well. Especially after all the good reports coming from training camp that he had taken a big step forward, etc etc. Sometimes I think perhaps Richard Smith is not utilizing him well, like just as a guy to take up blockers rather than to get upfield and disrupt plays.
Mario Williams is anything but a bust. I tune into the Texans games specifically because of him on NFL Sunday Ticket except for that comeback and awesome play by Schaub yesterday.
