What about signing Elie to the minimum to back up Cat. You can say over and over again that Stevie is the back up SG, but can this team possibly go into the season with 3 guards(Moochie,Steve,Cat)? And then what happens if, heaven forbid, Cat suffers an injury, all of the sudden our season is over, because we have no one to help replace him. Mario has said that he wants to play closer to home, so he probably would sign for the minimum, much cheaper than resigning Shandon. And since he only averaged 22 minutes in Phoenix last year, he probably wouldn't mind playing 10-15 min. a game back home.

A CBA guy like Sean Colson could do just as good as Elie, and wouldn't complain when he didn't get to play. If Cuttino ever got hurt, Moochie would become our starting PG and Steve our starting SG, and Colson or whoever would be the 3rd guard off the bench. Mario isn't that good anymore (you could get equal contribution from a CBA pickup), and with his ego I can't see him willing to sit out most games and only play in case of an injury to Cat.

Mario doesn't fit what the Rockets need now. I love him and his toughness but his skills, quickness, and defensive abilties have declined and we can't afford to have him around just to be a "positive influence."

Actually, there could be some merit to this idea. Mario lives in Houston. He had the best years of his career with the Rockets. He is practically an icon in this city.

If the Rockets wanted to add a veteran guard who could help teach Steve and Cuttino a thing or two about playing defense, Elie would be great. Not to mention that it would be a good idea no matter what from a PR standpoint. The fact remains that the Rockets need a fourth guard on the roster. While that guard might be Colson, why not Elie? Elie was a starter LAST YEAR; yet he probably wouldn't mind a greatly diminished role (he actually didn't want to start for Phoenix but had to b/c of Penny's injury).

I say "Go for it!" If not, no big deal.

Besides, I think he's still bitter about our little breakup a few years back...

Mario Elie completely and utterly burned all possible bridges with the Rockets. First he went and trashed the system, management, and the likes when it appeared he would be traded to Toronto, then he screamed down, badmouthed, and mocked Rudy T excessively after hitting a game winning shot against the Rockets in '99. He completely overreacted. It got so bad that when the Spurs were going to the lockerroom he was still badmouthing the Rockets after the shot screaming that he did have heart, and the Spurs players had to drag him into the lockerroom. No way the Rockets re-sign him.

The Cat- Why do you think that Sean Colson can come in and back up Cuttino? He's only 6-1, therefore we'd be caring 3 point guards and one shooting guard. And what did Colson show that he will be able to play 15 min a night? What about someone like Felpie Lopez or Fred Hoiberg, both can step outside and hit the three, and both could come relativly cheap.

He's not coming back to the Rockets. He was a big baby when he was with the Rockets and still is. I seriously doubt the Rockets would offer him anything.

How about Langhi as the worlds tallest back-up 2?

Does Terrance Morris have the quickness to play the 2-spot at times? Also, what ever happened to Stais Boseman?

The season's over, but the 'Stros have started. Guess I'm still gonna be nursing that keg...

Gene- I wouldn't be opposed to that since with the additions of Griffin and T-Mo it looks like Langhi will be back riding the pine. But, does he have the ball handling skills to play 2?

Gene--actually, I seem to remember a couple of games two years ago when Flip Saunders decided to start KG at the 2. A 7-1 shooting guard! Plus, I'm sure Don Nelson has gone to Dirk at the 2 at some point in the season.

If Anderson wants to return... Elie is a moot point. Anderson's a lot better than any other back-up SG out there.

Juan- But are the Rockets willing to pay Shandon the money that he want, probably about 5 million per?
